My CH fighterstick USB and Pro-Pedals USB aren't working with IL-2. They work with Microsoft Flight Simulator. I have XP and DirectX 9.0b. Any ideas?
Also, is there a handbook in IL-2? I can't find it.

Run IL2Setup, select the Joystick tab and make sure the "Use Joystick" check box is checked.
You may also need to go into the "HOTAS" section at the bottom of the control assignments screen in the game to make sure the axes are assigned correctly.

Any documentation that comes with the game can be found in the Manuals folder on the CD or in the Readme files in the game directory on your Hard Disc Drive.

Hiya iffd, yep I too have CH products stuff as well ( Combatstick, pro throttle, pro pedals. Like tully said, you can simply reassign any button or axis in the input screen in IL-2. On the right side of the list where the keys or axis that the control is mapped to is indicated, just left click on that and it will be highlighted with a rectangular box around it, then you only need to hit the button on your joystick that you wish to have control that function, and you will see that button added to it, such as button 1(trigger) for weapon 1, button 2 for weapon 2 and so on. any axis can be reassigned too in the same way, by cliking on the current assignment, and then moving the stick in the direction you wish to have control this function and it will add that axis to the listing, eg; X, Y, Z ect.
And yes also ther is several PDF files in a folder in the main folder of IL-2 and they are manuals, key charts ect. And they use adobe acrobat reader.

Thanks guys. I guess I didn't explain my joystick problem well enough in my post. I was trying to assign functions to my joystick and pedals exactly like you described, but IL-2 was not recognizing my joystick or pedals. They did work when I tried to callibrate them. I uninstalled, and then re-installed IL-2, and it works fine now.
