Another forum I frequent has found this ARG - apparently from a link on the computer in the OXM SC:CT demo. If you're any good at decryption/obscure puzzles, you might want to get in on trying to figure this out. It looks pretty cool, and so far more tricky than most ARGs out there.

For those of you (er, us) here who suffered onomatopoeia when first reading the acronym: wikilicious (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternate_Reality_Game).

or, to summarize:

alternate reality game.

If you ever saw "The Game" movie. It's a game that takes place in the real world, using actors and props, etc. to create a realistic set of events. "Players" interact with the events in various ways depending on the nature of the particular ARG. In ones like this, it seems the game is advanced by players solving puzzles that lead to the next set of clues and problems. Very fun, especially for conspiracy theorists. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Addendum: Ah, you added a sentence while I was writing. Almost like a scavenger hunt. It reminds me of what might have been one of the most fascinating ARGs, or a predecessor thereof. Ever heard, Jinx, of the book (http://www.maar10.net/puzzles/collection-puzzles/book-puzzles/the-secret.html) The Secret? It was solved quite a long time ago but it was incredibly well done, an original mythology with artwork to match &#8212 drawings, paintings and the most inadvertantly frightening sculptures of creatures I've ever seen. If you're close to a reasonably large public library, see if they have it.

That link to The Secret is less descriptive than I thought. Point is, it explains a lot of ARGs' appeal. All the pastime needs is a holodeck. Minus the macabre Douglas streak, maybe.
