If you get this error saying: This application has failed to start because d3dx9_32.dll was not found.

It means your Direct X 10 is not up-to-date.

Please install the Direct X 9 December 2006 version found on your Silent Hunter 4 Wolfes of the Pacific Retail DVD.

Would be cool if you could make this a sticky, I guarantee alot more people will be having this problem as many more people are currently purchasing the game.

Hi

Good Advice. I got the same message, but hadn't installed DirectX9 on my vista Ultimate system, as it doesnt make sense when I already have Direct X 10????
So I went back and installed from DVD the DX9.0c but I still cant play.. the new error message is ...

The procedure entry point
?MergeMissionProject@ProjectFile@@QAEXXZ could not be located in the dynamic link library SimData.dll

Damn shame any offers of assistance??

I totally agree with Stuart : why should I install dx9.0c when Vista is using DX10? Also, there is a newer 9.0c version, February 2007, and Vista is not listed in the system requirements, so...
I mean, no one would ever install 2 different versions of directx on a computer before, so... And we're talking about Vista.

Does anyone have the answer to this?
I have Vista and it shows DirectX 10. It doesn't make sense to me to install DirectX 9.0c; which as I recall can not be uninstalled.

Can this dll simply be copied into Windows Vista?

Try to download the d3dx9_32.dll file, and put it in the map of SH4...you can always try.

The better option is to update DirectX from Microsoft web installer.

Greetings, nishanth13. Welcome to the SH Forums.

What version of SHIV are currently playing with, nishanth13? Also did you get you copy of SHIV off the internet as a download or did you buy it on a disk?

I am having the same problem. I just updated Vista x64 Home to Service Pack 2. I have the latest directX 10 patches. I have downloaded the latest SH4 1.4 patch. I still get the same error application has failed to start because d3dx9_32.dll was or found.
SR4 works fine on an XP machine but why not on Vista with all of the latest patches both game and video driver wise. I am also using an GTX260 video card w/ latest drivers.

Suggestions ?

Welcome to the SH Forums, markysha1991.

First, let me say that SHIV runs very well on Vista. I, myself have seven different modded versions of SHIV running on Vista 64 with SP2 and and all versions run very smoothly.

The d3dx9.32.dll error that you are receiving is a DirectX problem. Even though you are running Vista which comes with DX10 you still need to install the latest version of DX 9.0c in order for SHIV to run correctly. Have you loaded the latest version of DX9.0c on your computer?

I have noticed lately that a number of people using the latest Nvidia graphic drivers have had some problems running SHIV. Some have reverted back to an earlier version of the graphic drivers and had success running SHIV. You might give this idea a try and see if it helps any.

open your system 32 folder in windows and make the window smaller so as to open another window. Right click on the drive Far Cry is in and hit explore, now click support, now directX. Look for two zipped files called June2008_d3dx9_38_x64 and June2008_d3dx9_38_86. Unzip these files, there are 11 total and drag them into your system 32. You may get a do you want to replace message and just click yes to all. The game will run

Get the file from the above, and put it in your "Windows/system32" folder. If you're running a 64 bit version of Windows, it has to go in the "SYSWOW64" folder. This is the only file you need, so just get it and don't bother with installing all of DirectX 9.
