View Full Version : What's Ubi-Soft's Definition of "Dynamic Campaign"?

My definition: Falcon 4.0's campaign.
Are we going to be playing a campaign with a mission tree or a campaign that is truly dynamic as Falcon 4.0's _is_?

By the way, I tip my hat to all of the devs on this project. It takes balls to push release dates back, BUT... I'm willing to wait for a masterpiece rather than something that barely runs or lacks features.
I'm a programmer as well and I can tell you that game programming is HELL. Especially simulation programming. Pong, ok... pong was easy. But lo-mac is (hopefully) going to achieve fame the way falcon has.

I believe it's a Dynamic campaign [You create / select auto-generated missions in the campaign] and not a "campaign like in C&C Generals or Warcraft" if you get my idea. With the Mission Tree thingy.
The Dynamic Campaign [more examples... Like in CFS3 or Apache Havoc (YES, I was so stupid enough to buy that "realistic" helicopter game.. but then again, it was only 10 bucks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif)] would definitely a good idea. Every simulator should have a Dynamic Campaign and maybe, for some variety, quick missions or a mission tree campaign.
When you're done with single player, hop over to MP, I guess, huh?
And I read in a thread the multiplayer option would make you to manually connect, enter IPs to join. I guess I should the check FAQ better.

That sounds like the Falcon 4.0 missions. Which is GOOD.
I would love to see airports leveled and flying by later to see them being rebuilt, only to then decimate them again.
=) I suppose this one wins my dollars then. I DO wish that the dev's would get someone to post some details of the campaign though. I mean, I'm NOT playing another mission tree campaign or serial mission campaign.

Sorry guys, but first Lock On will not feature a campaign similar to Falcon4, but a standard linear/branched campaign, probably similar to Jane's F/A-18.
A dynamic campaign system is in development though as a 3rd party project. Take a look in the campaign forum to learn more.
Personally I'm not sure what to think about dynamic campaigns. On one hand I would really like to have one, on the other hand so far nearly every single one of those I played were buggy and produced stupid missions. Falcon4 could at least be repaired with time after the source code was leaked.
That's why I think the 3rd party way is the best solution - it seems like such systems are simply too complex to expect developers to create them, when the rest of the game is already complex enough.

I have to agree that dynamic campaigns can be tough to code. They are an entire project in themselves. And 3rd party / open source may be the only way to really have a good campaign system created.
I'm still snagging this title when it comes out. It's WAY too cool to have the chance to fly these monsters! Besides, I'm the high bidder at the moment on a set of Thrustmaster Elite pedals to go with my Cougar!
I still tip my hat to the dev's on this project. It's going to be a very nice product that ya'll can be proud of.
Yes, that's ya'll. ;-)
