I'm having a problem escaping the clutches of escorts in convoys. What are people's methods after firing a few shots at a convoy? Dive to 70m and sit it out? dive to 30 and ahead flank opposite direction? I've tried a bunch of things but i can never seem to lose em!
Thanks a bunch!

well, after i fire all my torpedoes, i dive at full speed towards the convoy.. ar around 50 meters i slow to 1/3.. it is much more difficult for destroyers to spot you when you are under the convoy since the engines of the ships in formation create a lot of noise.. the next thing i do is head for about 125meters depth once i reach it i rig for silent runningand i sit by the hydrophone listening in all directions and making sure the i know exactly where the destroyers are.. if i notice that they are getting closer, i usually change direction to throw them off.. if all this does not work, then i try to dive deeper.. maybe 150 meters and always try to have my sub positioned with the least cross section detectable to their sonar.. this usually means that my stern is pointing right at them. it takes some time and practice, but eventually they give up the search and rejoin the convoy. if they manage to get a few good depth charges on you and you are still ok, it might be also wise to make good use of the decoys as well if u notice too many destroyers closing in on you.

running at ahead flank at a shallow depth without cover from the convoys engines will give you away, i would just do as blue said, id only use ahead flank to attempt to dodge the charges and get deep fast, once im there ill go ahead slow, maybe 1/3 if hes far enough away.

If under water already I just drop to 15m and turn 90 degrees away on 1/3 with silent running and watch behind me with the periscope to see if I'm fooling them and I so far have done well with it. Remains to be seen if this tactic will work in the later years...
