Hello all.

I'm working on a small, personal campaign of mine (of course I'm willing to share if anyone is actually interested) and currently I'm performing some tests for stuff I'm going to use for that campaign.

Anyway, I do have a slight problem and no matter what I try I just can't get it to work right, so I decided to see if you guys know anything about it.

My problem is the JU-88 "Mistel" the flying bomb thing. My idea is to use this as sort of 'cruise missile' that I would have to protect or attack (depending on the kind of mission in my mind) but so far I can't get it to work straight.

Let me tell you how and what I did to test it. I started with the online map of the Coral Sea (chosen because it's very small and has no features that would hinder loading times) and I put a stationary battleship as a target. I placed a 'Mistel' at a decent distance from the ship and set it's designation of Gattack on it in every possible way (both from Gattack without setting a target and with).

That didn't work because the Mistel just dove straight down and crashed into the water. I tried setting normal waypoints around and nothing happened, it still went straight down a brief moment after the start of the mission (I was just observing from an airplane I was flying).

So does anyone know how to pull this off? I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks.

P.S. does someone have similar intructions on how to use the V-1 rocket in the game? Using that would be interesting, thanks. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well, I haven't messed with it, but I believe you have to have it mated to a parent aircraft first. Try taking the FW190A8 Mistrel and plotting your waypoints normally with the ground attack part in it. Then place a second object that is the Ju-88 Mistrel. On its one and only waypoint click set and choose the FW
w-190 as the target. It should work that way.

Thanks for the info guys, I managed to 'mate' a JU-88 Mistel to a FW-190 mistel, I haven't gotten it to work completely right, but I'm sure I'll figure it out shortly. Thanks again.

Oh and one other question, if you don't mind, how do you get the V-1 to work right? That would be pretty cool, too. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

IIRC the FB readme says that the Mistel cannot attack if it is not flown by a human pilot.

You can use AI Mistels, they will fly around but won't attack.

Please correct me if I'm wrong

I guess you could be right about the Mistel needing to be controled by a human pilot. I suppose I could try to tinker around with it and see what might happen, but I won't hold my breath and I won't shed any tears if it doesn't work.

I manage to attach the mistel to the F190F-8 (Mistel) without problems. But if it is AI, at mission starts it will go into an irrecuperable spin. If it is human, I can control it, but as soon as I try the autopilot it will go into the spin.

I have tried starting at higher velocity than default, but didn't prevent the spin.

Ideas anyone?

This is extactly what the readme says about Mistel:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">
First of all, our AI routine would need a complete overwrite to allow for complete realistic Mistel operations. Unfortunately we could not afford to spend another year building and testing the Mistel, so our AI Mistels cannot take-off, land or attack targets. The most an AI Mistel can do is follow a set of waypoints in the air, basically serving as a large target for other flights.
</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

The readme also has a long explanation about the V-1, setting its waypoint, etc...

Thanks, but anyway I already got my question answered for the V-1 rocket a while back. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Anyway, Maraz, I have a question to ask. What exactly is that thing in your avatar? I think it's a dog, but something tells me that it's a bird of sorts, can you tell me what it is, please?

It's a bird, a falcon actually, one of the character (the bad guy) of a recent cartoon movie, "Valiant"
