View Full Version : Poll: Do you want Riddle Sites in Heroes VI?

Remember the Pyramids in Heroes 2 (or 3?), how if you answered the Sphinx question correct, you would receive a great reward/ artifact and if you answered wrong your army would be decimated?
I’d like to see something like that brought back to Heroes 6. Doesn’t have to be in the form of pyramids and I prefer to see them in the form of several ancient “Primordial” ruins and sites! Actually to make even more fun, I’d like to see some have traps or ambushes that a hero has to fight through before being riddled with a question!
I think it would even be better if the riddle questions where related to clues on the map, through sign posts or conversations with seers, or other in map event and based on the world of Ashan’s story/ mythology!
What do you think? Polling time and please post your thoughts too!

All these years I've been a fan of Heroes of Might and Magic... I haven't played WOG yet, but I keep hearing about it... Maybe worth a try http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
At least for now with so little details of what exactly is in HoMM6, we can continue to keep wishing and dreaming for our favorite in game features :P

The first thought was "yay! superb! I LOVED Sphinxes! And Ashan!"
The second: "no, wait"
So, I'd be glad to see riddles back, but, unfortunately, the average HV&VI player doesn't know the world of Ashan or its timeline so much, that he/she could answer questions like "Who was the leader of the heretics of the Empire during its war with Arantir's Necromancers?" or "Name the Demon Lord of Pain" etc. You know, the riddles should be possible to be answered by everyone, so everyone would have (less or more) equal chances to achieve the prize.
And those related to Ashan... I think that most of the players would rather be eager to enter the Dragon Utopia than to answer them.
Fortunately, in HII you could write your own riddles.
So - riddles? Yes, hell yes. Riddles related to the Ashan lore? No, at least not imprinted in game.

Riddle-me this:
What could make you lose your game because of a misspell?
Riddling sites were mostly horrible. They wrecked games completely and didn't really add that much. I remember how a six hour session with a newbie ended because he went with his main hero to the sphinx, to know what it did, answered wrongly, and lost his hero. Then he panicked and ended turn and I couldn't fix it.
Nope, they're not needed.

I don't see much of an issue with them, provided the blessings/curses are kept manageable, say, matched Dark/Light spells for the next battle (ie Divine Strength/Weakness, Endurance/Vulnerability, etc.), with the default mastery being Basic.

I would suggest alternative for riddles:More Quest huts like witch hut and i hut you get a question which can be answered only from ashan history or you need to find answer on the map,you lose nothing if you dont answer(However anwer must be typed by yourself so you hardly can guess)
it would bring some rewards for players who read all the sign posts, travel alots etc,.

Ya, but Thunion, it was so much fun taking the risk. Really there wasn't much risk in a single player game by saving before you attempted the riddle.
At the same time it makes those Multiplayer games so much more intersting when do not allow players to restore from save points except to continue the game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You can dare to see who actually wants to try the riddle http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Apparently the AI did use riddles. I was playing a map the other day with against a bunch of computers. I reached a sphinx, and its riddle had already been answered.

Riddles don't hurt if the punishment for answering wrongly is reasonable. Losing your hero for good isn't reasonable. Losing 5% of stacks or alotta morale/luck seems reasonable. Some drawback that is hard to get rid of, but won't ruin your game.

Unfortunately at this time, riddles are not a good game design in my opinion.
Everyone spends much more time online than during H2. And no matter how many riddles there would be, eventually one either looks them all up online or goes through them all - making that part of the game a hindrance from that point.
