After reading a post at GR.net

WhiteKnight says

quote:
Let me start by saying I think Ubi canceled GR2 for PC due to our outrage of changing the gameplay from what we loved to what we dispised even though we didn't actually get a taste of it except for what we saw via videos and anecdotes from XBox players (and the PS2 players who dispised their version even worse from what I saw). Over at the Ubi forums I asked the question:

QUOTE(Me)
Why would Coke, after outrage from consumers, return to the old forumla for Coke, when the outrage that rose against New Coke reared it's head?

Does anyone remember the outrage that came forth? I know some of you will not know what I am talking about, but the following will help you to understand. Those of us who are old enough remember it well. Funny thing is, I took the Pepsi Challange and chose Pepsi over Coke. Truth be told, I love my Dr. Pepper (first had it in 72), but would rather have Pepsi over Coke any day.

From "God, What a Blunder: The New Coke Story "

QUOTE
On April 23, 1985, New Coke was released to a great deal of fanfare. By the middle of June, people were "Saying 'No' to New Coke." (13) Reaction to New Coke was swift and humiliating. The taste of New Coke was likened to "sewer water," "furniture polish," "Coke for wimps," and, most disheartening to Coca-Cola management, "two-day-old Pepsi." (14) "I miss the battery acid tang," said one.

Cokeaholics began stockpiling Old Coke in their homes. Black marketeers sold Old Coke for upwards of $30 a case and were looking for ways to import it from abroad. Some desperate addicts had the drink shipped to them from Montreal by FedEx. One Hollywood producer rented a $1,200 wine cellar to hold his 100 cases of Old Coke. The Old Coke Drinkers of America logged 60,000 calls to their national headquarters. (15)

The mere idea of changing Coke provoked some of the more virulent responses. Here's a sample:

"like spitting on the flag" (16)
"At first I was numb. Then I was shocked. Then I started to yell and scream and run up and down." (17)
"I couldn't have been more surprised if someone had told me that I was gay," said one husband and father of two. (18)
"Changing Coke is like God making the grass purple or putting toes on our ears or teeth on our knees." (19)
"When they took Old Coke off the market, they violated my freedom of choice. It's as basic as the Magna Charta, the Declaration of Independence. We went to was in Japan over that freedom." (20)
"There are only two things in my life: God and Coca-Cola. Now you have taken one of those things away from me." (21)
"Next week, they'll be chiseling Teddy Roosevelt off the side of Mount Rushmore." (22)

Do any of you see where I am going with this? Coke took the new stuff off the market just over 2 months after it's release. We fans of the original GR raised a big enough stink that Ubi knew and even admitted to, that they didn't have a game that fans wanted thus pulling a New Coke. They knew that the time it would take for RSE to rework GR2 for PC would put it's release to close to a release of GR3 for PC and wouldn't have the sales of GR2 for PC or GR3 for PC.

How does it play into GR3 for PC? Well After New Coke was pulled from the shelves what took it's place? Classic Coke. Will GR3 for PC return to it's original roots, hard to say. I don't know how it will come out nor does anyone else here on Staff that hasn't signed an NDA (no I don't know what all he has seen, but I am sure he has seen plenty), but maybe, just maybe we will get our Classic Coke.

Hey Rocky, watcha think?

Now i agree completly with what he said and i hope ubi did catch on.

toss this pic into your sig if you agree gr3 needs to feel like good ole gr

As do I... and it's a good analogy, hence my sig addition... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

It's just that, specifically, when the New Coke thing blew up, it meant nothing to me personally because I didn't drink Coke and I didn't drink New Coke, so I didn't care (similar to "change OFP, I could care less...").

But, since we're messing with GR, I'll use the sig pic as well...

I think we should be using what Chunk and I are using instead of the other one http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Hey, how about a water sig? I could represent the fact that we want pure unadulterated tactical gameplay. Not to mention, that it is also my choice of drink. Any other water people out there, or am I the only one? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gifI guess it is a bit hard to feel passionate about water, unlike a soda.http://img261.echo.cx/img261/7804/coke5nj.jpg

Well,

it's the the Coke design means it's classic that is not to be changed. And that's what we are asking. So... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I don't want the old ghost recon back, persay...

Instead I want to see The Character Stats and weapons selection for each character before the mission. I want the old map back and two teams or 3 or even 4. I would love to see the old Ghost Recon map tactics back, when you open the map and tell the other team where to go. That is a tactical shooter. I was dissapointed to see these elements not present in ghost recon 2 and I really really hope they bring back these elements that made ghost recon great. The switching between characters was great also, now you have many weapons at your disposal, instead of just the on you picked.

I guess...all in all, I do want ghost recon back...but i don't want the ghost recon graphics back. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

BRING BACK THE GOOD UBI...PLEASE!!

We all are aware of GRIN taking over the SP duties of GR3 for PC and to show that they are taking an interest in what we have to say and what GR means to us, they have inadvertently (or did they purposely) got caught with a certain hi-res image that a dev had asked for last week. Check out what I found on their website.

http://www.whiteknight77.net/images/gringrc.jpg

Now hopefully the console teams will understand that y'all want the same thing too.

Omygahd this thread is a hoot!

@WhiteKnight77....good find http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

If the console teams would understand that not all of us are 13 year old gamers looking for 5 minutes of greatness but rather adults looking for months of solid gaming for people who like to think then maybe....just maybe there's hope!

That is a great find. Maybe there is validity in getting attention the right way. IF they get GR3 right for the 360 I would literally kiss each and every one of the developers and put them all on a Christmas mailing list! But it has to recapture the feel of OGR for me to do that (that's a lot of Christmas cards). http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

ok now i know i might get some abuse here but...

ive never actually played the first ghost recon. il love the second and im a big fan of the rainbow
six games on the xbox. now was the first one like the original rainbow six games? cause if it is well then that is a bit too tactical for some people. i think this game is going to be a bit more tactical though(at least more then gr2 i mean) as the cross com seems to let you select one member of the team. this means that possibly we are going to be able to order single guys around as well as a team.

so to me, i think gr2 is amazing and i can see why alot of people want to change it cause' some people do like that sort of thing.

also i think it is a bit closed minded for all of you to be saying that it shouldnt be for 13 year old gamers who just want to run and shoot cause' theyre are alot of people who like that.
me? i like a mix of both.

please dont call me a n00b cause these are just my thoughts and fellings and yes i cant help being new to ghost recon.

@Oetzi.....

The whole point of us getting upset is that there are a ton of run and gun games...like rainbowsix. The people who like those games have dozens to pick from. The people who liked OGR now have nothing like that to play because Redstorm took the only tactical FPS out there and sold out to make a few extra bucks and to please a few more people.

Sorry if you were offended by the remarks....a lot of people just want GR to return to it's roots.
