I never really post on the Ubi message boards but I have played all the games back to PS1 days. My thoughts are this: Double Agent, Vegas, and GRAW2 all ended with open endings. SPOILERS: Fisher is either Awol, fugitive, or whatever vague ending you unlocked. In Vegas the EMP is gone. In GRAW2 Mitchell is down and probably seriously injured. Also there was a mention of Third Echelon in GRAW2. I believe they are using this 'new' game as a way to bring together all the series into one supergame. I don't know how this will work but it could be each chapter you are Sam or Logan, or Mitchell. Whatever it is it'll be cool.

From what I understand, Splinter Cell: Essentials for the PSP takes place just after the end of Splinter Cell: Double Agent. I don't know how it ends, and I don't want to know until I get a PSP and play it for myself. Maybe it put an end to the story from Double Agent?

Impossible, because of the time difference. It would be their followers or something, but Sam is 50+ in SC.DA... Don't forget about that.
I bet it'll be 3 games. One SC like, one like GR and one Rainbow-esque game. All taking place at the same time, in the same war, on the same side. During the game they briefly meet each other or hear about the other's actions and in the end they all shake hands or something.

Sams Birthdate is fixed, so his age can't be. AFAIk he was born in 1957.
