After 2 years on the open ocean, countless kills, and promotions... i was sunk..

I was proceeding to whilemshaven since my patrol was over, the crew moral was very high! we had just sunk 2 C3 cargos, and 1 T3 tanker. The look son there faces where that of anxious-ness, they wanted to go home to see there familys.

while sipping my coffee, the watch tower shouted down "Warship Spotted!!! 310%"

I immediately put down my cup and proceeded up to the deck to have a look. be hold! a King George V sailing right in front of my path, and me with two torpedos left.

I grinned to myself, thinking that this would be the kill that got me yeat another glorious metal.. i was wrong.. as i turned to give the order to dive, the crewman next to me got hit with a bullet... the battle ship was firing at us!!!

we had been spotted... I yelled "Crash Dive!!!" and slid into the belly of my sub.. i heard the ballast open, and for a moment i felt secure... but then... BOOOOOM!!!! the battleship had scored a direct hit from its main guns.. all crewmen in the diesel engine compartment died instantly. the flooding was great, and there was nothing i could do about it.. i ordered ahead slow then all stop.. to try and slow the rate of decent.. but it was all just a feutal effort.. we crashed into the sea floor doing about 4 knots.. the bow compartment was damaged, along with the command room, and forward crewmans quarters.

we ran damage control but we just couldn't get ahead of the flooding... "Blow Balast!!" i shouted, this had absolutely no effect

"The Diesel engine compartment is completely flooded sir, we're not getting off the bottom"

i took a deep breath, turned to my crewmen and said "Thank you men.. for everything" i ordered the german national anthem played.. and we sat there on the bottom of the ocean.. until there was no air left to breath... 48 souls lost... and my career ended... This is U-85 as it looks today, on the bottom of the english channel...

Like the german sailors say : The death is the bride of the seamen. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Tragic as it may seem, the loss of a splendid submarinecrew is nothing compared to the fact the picture of U-85 destroyed beyond any damagepartys abilities shows: Global warming has now led to the English Channel beeing a suitable home for hammer-head sharks....

I tell you the game is rigged... All those subs that WERE sunk in WW2 also sink in SH3.

Maybe the ship had radar, did you have Metox or that other one ??, othewise It's nearly impossible for a ship to see you b4 you see it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif

Edt: your pic looks like the sub was rammed ?

That picture of the sub at the bottom of Seraph812's post is U-869, a type IXC/40. It is resting on the seafloor 60 miles off the coast of New Jersey. You can take a Flash animation tour of it at Nova's website. Here is the url:

yep sure is!!! such a beutiful wreck site too. i just wanted to add a bit of flavor to my story, so i used this pic... the hammer head shark thing kinda throws it off.. but yeah, my sub was a VIIB i just wanted a "After all was said and done" pic.

Seraph

Skarphol, I see you are a Homer Simpson fan. Here's one of my favourite Homerisms: "You tried and you failed miserably. The lesson is... never try."

Nice read Seraph812 (although with a sad end).

It is always stimulating to read these type of war-stories as they happen in SH3. I encourage all to share more write-ups on missions.

Thanks,

Ah, you fell to the all too common feeling here, that battleships are just big fat targets screaming for you to sink.
Well, 10 14 inch guns is how this battleship reminded you that it is not a friendly ghost.
