Alright, in the past, I have been bashed for comments to posts about stealth, but I have found an article that was posted yesterday that peaked my interest involving multiplayer and the link is here:
http://www.co-optimus.com/arti...ell__Conviction.html (http://www.co-optimus.com/article/3127/Co-Op_Survival_Included_in_New_Challenge_Mode_in_Spli nter_Cell__Conviction.html)
Now, if I'm reading correctly that the Co-Op campaign is 2 players, but it is stated that the multiplayer modes are co-op as well, called Deniable Ops...I know there have been discussions about this before, but it has been revealed to be a 4-player mode with the PEC from Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2...
Now as for my topic, in this article Hunter, Infiltration, and Last Stand are 4-player co-op...we have that established, but by reading Face-off, it sounds as if it is a free-for-all because it says 4-player head-to-head. It also says you will fight alongside AI so maybe it's:
1p and 1 or more cpu
vs
1p and 1 or more cpu
vs
1p and 1 or more cpu
vs
1p and 1 or more cpu
NOTE: I don't know, but I made this topic of discussion to discuss these possibilities.
But through thinking, maybe since it says head-to-head there could be an option to make it 2v2 instead of free-for-all since deniable ops is a 4-player mode? And if that is the case, you might be able to set 2 players as the mercenary faction and the other 2 as the spies and take out or leave the added AI possibly?
Think about it, it does seem possible, but not likely...I like the new info in this article even though some of it has been thrown out there already. We will probably figure out the full extent of these multiplayer modes on Wednesday, as stated in other topics, but we have one more day to ponder upon this discussion!
So guys tell me what you think! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Judging by the fact that Ubi are well aware that people enjoy playing spies much more than mercs, i believe they have a 2 spies VS 2 spies game in the works. It's 2 vs 2 and you can have AI mercs. Meaning you all try to sneak by the other team's mercs (AI), sort of blending co-op with adversary mode. Sometimes maybe you could encounter the other spy team giving some nasty hand to hand combat. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Pure speculation though.
I always loved the ORIGINAL multiplayer concept, but double agent sucked so bad because they moved away too far from what splinter cell is all about; stealth. You should not be succesful in the multiplayer game if you run, run and run and use agility to outsmart your opponents. Sure, the spies should be agile, but they should depende on stealth, not speed.
Just my 2 cents.....

To me, there's no dynamic gameplay elements when your character has the same capabilities as the enemy. SvM was great because Spies and Mercs had pros and cons to themselves. You weren't just fighting someone who had the exact same ability at their disposal.

I just hope the Spies can choose to use stealth to their own degree. They can try to go all undetected or get to a point where they can take care of the opponent.
Just have them not be utterly useless in combat. Not saying give them guns but martial arts moves to disarm and maybe subdue their merc adversary for long enough for them to get away again... and not only from behind.
I have faith Ubisoft will get it right this time around though.

yes, thats what I love about SvM. Two teams against one another that both have their advantages and disadvantages.
I, for one, LOVE playing as merc as well as spy.

I Hope they keep the ability to play the mercs because when I would play online I always sucked as a spy I was always better as a Merc plus i liked the tools they offered to catching the spies. Also If they do offer the Merc ablility I hope resembles what you can do in Rainbow Six 2 Vegas just because I would like it to be a more like a splintercell vs rainbow six mode.

The thing we need to keep in mind here is that SPEED and AGILITY are force multipliers in this game.
Even if you don't have lethality, SvM was never really about deathmatch. The Spy's speed and agility alone gave them the ability to hit n' run and get out of line of sight of the Merc to avoid damage.
This is why the Merc's gear focused around trapping, tracking and surveillance; he used those to give him an idea where the Spy is so he could apply lethal force.
Any blurring of the Spy/Merc's abilities into the other side would be a bad move IMO (ie, giving the Spy more lethal forces or the Merc more agility) I know everyone wants the Spy to be badass and do some ninja moves on the Mercs, but Mercs are trained just as well, and would probably be able to counter the Spy as often times as the Spy would counter the Merc.

Why so negative? Everyone of your posts have been negative...what if it's an improvement to the old SvM? You won't be able to tell until you see it tommorrow...

I think that are all the co-op modes. They might have the original SvM mode along with this new co-op.

I think that face off is SvM or SvS or Free for all, as hinted at the gameplay type in the article...kinda why I made this topic ^_^; I don't think that they will have just a straight SvM mode, but we won't know until tommorrow!

The one thing I'm really concerned about is if Ubi took the inappropriately popular approach many devs have taken as of late and did to MP hosting/matchmaking what they did in DA's (which was an ABOMINATION)
Infinity Ward did likewise, forcing PC players to use matchmaking rather than Dedicated Servers. There was a HUGE uproar against IW for them neutering their MP experience so drastically.
I hope Ubi doesn't do likewise. Dedicated Servers make the world go round.

I for one, being an Xbox 360 player can agree with you that Dedicated Servers would be a great improvement to a lot of Xbox Live games, because it would reduce hosting advantages and the overall experience would be greater...Now I have played games on the PC before and am quite fond of the dedicated server idea, but it just seems now-a-days that dedicated servers on Xbox Live have been dying off...I don't see dedicated servers in this game at all, but it would be nice to see if there was!

I just hope you're not disappointed tomorrow when the news drops. The article that the guy at co-optimus sites does not say four "player" co-op, it says (4 co-op) as in Deniable Ops has 4 modes. Every article other than Co-optimus' claims 2 player co-op for all modes. I hope I'm wrong and the article is right but... I guess we'll see

It is in the article just read down toward the bottom...3rd Paragraph, the one under the gametype descriptions...

That's good to read then. I imagine Ubisoft will make these modes as best as they can. They've got lots to make up for if they don't include the SvM in the announcement tomorrow.

Yes I've read it three times. I know what he states. i also know that none of the links that he has in the article as sources state 4 "player" co-op when you follow them. They actually state that Face off is 2 player head-to-head with AI bots. He seems to draw the 4-player conclusion on his own.

I know how you feel, except I'm currently in college and the end of the semester is almost here. I've been swamped with essays these last few weeks.I'm taking a break from writing 12 pages for archaeology right now. I'll definitely be taking a break after this semester.
Back on topic: Spies vs Mercs is a fundamental aspect of the Splinter Cell franchise and I'm sure the members of the Ubisoft team has not overlooked that, but as seen in previous games a lot of individuals did not find playing as Mercenaries to be a fun experience. So if the mode is removed from the game and is made into Spies vs spies I can see their rational in making that decision
Right now though all we have is a lot of speculation in terms of SvM. A lot of people are assuming their worse fears to be true and have based that off of little to no evidence. We will probably find out today, assuming it is a full multiplayer reveal.
I, like everyone else on this board, am a huge fan of SC. One of the things I've liked most is their willingness to experiment. The entire franchise has been different than any other experience (and I did enjoy DA) and now with Conviction we seemingly have a more action oriented multiplayer, regardless, I do not doubt that we will have the choice to approach it in a stealthy manner.
I think that this has the potential to be one of the most successful and enjoyable Splinter Cells to date, regardless of SvM being included or not.

Yes I agree it does show to be very promising and shows high potential to be the game of the year, but if they did make it SvS instead of SvM it's going to be based on the gameplay that Conviction is based on...It could be a great gametype and an improvement or it could be a failure...so we will just have to wait and see! 7 1/2 hrs remaining until the reveal videos!

SvS could also be another generic TPS-Multiplayer like seen thousand times before. the two different game mechanics are what made SvM exceptional. i dont want anything like the SvS in SCDA for PS2.

I think it may turn out to be a spy vs spy type of gameplay but as far as SvM I think that's pretty much out of the picture.
