So I download this thing and start playing. As I'm playing I'm thinking WTF, another game promoted by crits that sucks. I don't like Braid. What does one expect with a name like John Blow? I guess he lives up to his name sake of, suck.

*I'm giving her all she's got Captain but mega maid has gone from suck to blow."- spaceballs, kind of.

And that is your opinion http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif . Can you please go more in depth in why it sucks other then just saying it sucks?

I thought it was a well designed, thought provoking side scroller with amazing, well thought out puzzle elements to it. The visual style was great and the soundtrack set the mood and was ear candy to me. That is just my opinion though.

Fair enough. I like the art work. If it wasn't for the artwork then I would say this game was really in the crapper. I don't like the gameplay as I feel like it's just a supermario rip off with full auto time rewind. The thing was with full auto the game delt with crashes with braid it's just a little dude who is a pyscho. That's just my opinion.

Ninja Kn1ght

Ummmm....Full Auto lets you rewind car crashes whereas Braid uses it's time manipulation to make you solve some pretty complex and ingenious puzzles. Which is better?

Full Auto.

Ditto to Slick and Ninja. Maybe you just didn't get enough into the game to realize that the "rewind" mechanism is more than just a way to undo your mistakes? Then again, I can definitely understand why Braid wouldn't be for everyone. It's not exactly action-packed.

In other news, have you guys played And Yet It Moves (http://www.playgreenhouse.com/game/BRKRL-000001-01/)? Very cool, similar game. Free demo for PC and Mac.

I'm sorry, my inner fangirl just flipped her wig. In my opinion, YOU must be crazy. But that's just my opinion, and admittedly coming from an almost irrational part of my heart. In my opinion, Braid is fantastic. I wouldn't give it an A+ or call it "the best game ever made in the world!!!!", but it's pretty freaking brilliant. Graphics are very cool in style, music is gorgeous, the game mechanics are elegant, and the puzzles are extremely clever and deserve appreciation even when extremely difficult. The whole construction of it has an unusual, artistic sensibility. The very intentional Mario references are cute, too.

But to each her/his own. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Calling it a "supermario rip off" is like calling every FPS game a "Doom rip off". Sure, it's a side-scrolling game where you must solve problems as you progress. But as others have pointed out, it's put together very nicely, and stands very well on its own merits.

This game has a solid story with a thought provoking finish.
It is very much like Mario. but with a better story and well implemented time powers.

Granted nothing ever 'splodes in it but that is the only negative.

I thought the same thing the first time I turned on Braid, but then I got to appreciate the game for exactly what everyone on this thread has said so far. Easily one of my top 3 downloads of all time on live.

That's pretty much what I thought of Braid from both a gamer and design point of view. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Never did finish it though because of work and other obligations. Does it have a satisfactory ending?

I'm guessing moonsong didn't play far enough into the game to realize that the time manipulation is actually required to solve puzzles.

Or maybe the game is too hard for him and he can't admit it :P

Too bad you can't use any of those time rewinding powers to undo this thread.

You know you don't really solve puzzles in super Mario right? You just go right and don't die. Occasionally you kill sh*t. How does that make it a rip off?

God damnit Morgan. Every time I go into thread wanting to comment on something, you make a post saying exactly what I was going to say yet far more coherent and elegant than anything I was going to post.

So you start a thread to bash a game that you've barely even played, and then realize that after you spend a little more time playing it, that it's not really as bad as you thought?

Weird isn't it. My first day playing it I hated the thing. I think that was because I had no clue how to solve the puzzles. Then *gasp* I sat down and for some reason I understood the puzzles. Go figure.

moonsongv1

Brofase, is that you? I see, okay borfase. I'll go with that. Not trolling. I made a snap judgment. Ya know, those thoughts people get that are like a knee jerk reaction. Now here is something positive. For me to make a quick judgment and have different positive feedback after getting a feel for the game says: Hmm, I guess the game isn't that bad after all. See how that works, sometimes, Brofase. Besides, even if I still didn't like the game, that's just an opinion.

* I get a kick out of the little 'doors'. The way the game is set up with the tiny statements seem like braid is opening up the doors of perception. I also think that the little brain men are Braid's mind and he beats himself up over nothing. A little bit of some self destruction is good for the soul.

So in conclusion Braid, hey it kind of grows on ya. (pun intended)

Well, moonsongv1, when i saw this thread i thought of things like this:

You got Braid, you were so hyped, expecting it to be the next best thing ever, and then you started the game and probably just went through the 1st level getting all three easy pieces, and then you were like "WHATTA, IS THIS THE GAME THAT EVERY ONE TALKING ABOUT!, I HATE IT AND I'M GONNA LET EVERY BODY KNOW THAT"

Thats for sure sounded like a thing that a little 7 years old brat would do, and i was actually wondering why the guys were trying to talk sense out of you while you didn't even provide any kind of constructive criticism toward the game that one could build an argument around.

But then, you played the game a little bit more and you discovered that you were wrong and that what you said about the game wasn't right and that the game is actually good, and even though you could have just kept that to your self, hide out and vanish without saying any thing about it, insted you decided to show up and declare that you were wrong and admit that you made what you called "a snap judgment" even though you know that this will make you look like a fool, and imo i think that was a brave choice to make.

So, what i want to say is that i respect you for making the right decision and i hope that you learned from this experience not to make "a snap judgments" cause it seem that you chose to learn this the hard way.

Have fun beating the game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
