I don't know about everyone else but I usually don't have my mic in until someone starts dissing me. But one thing I hate is when people dub you a "noob" because you don't have a mic. Just because someone doesn't have a mic or have it in doesn't mean they suck. Why? Or is it just a Halo2 social thing?

ill boot anyone from greg hasting if they are on without a mic, and it isnt because they are a noob, its because communication is a must in that game.

I'd suspect (or at least offer, since it was true for me) that many people are mic-less because Halo 2 came with a "two months free XBox live", which allowed you to go online without the added benefits of a mic that would have come if you'd done it using the start-up kit instead. I found it very hard to find a headset cheap enough that I felt okay buying it not knowing if I'd keep XBox live but not so cheap that I'd be upset if I actually did stick with the service. (For a while, I was on a quest to just buy the communicator, until I realized that the headset/mic I used on my PC wouldn't work because of the difference in plug philosophies.)
Anyhow, the point is I'm the last fellow who'd criticize someone not having a mic if they're just trying out XBL using H2's free offer. Though at the same time, I totally agree that being able to communicate really transforms the game - quite a few of the matches I've been in, where my side lost, there was almost no conversation or coordination of movement. (All those other losses are just 'cause I suck and such.)

I don't hold anything against someone who's not using a mic but, it really is a necessity in the Team games, because you have to know where people are and whats going on, there have been way to many times in a game where I'm the only one calling out positions, or trying to get my team to work together, it's hard to do with someone that can't or won't talk back.

I totally agree, communication is so important in team games. if your playing team slayer, you can tell one guy to cover your back while you snipe. in objective based games, you can split up your teams so some people stay behind and guard the base while others rush.
*on a sidenote: anybody know what's a good mic, i am currently borrowing a friends.

The Plantronics Halo 2 Headset is an exercise in perfection. Noise cancelling makes it about as clear as you could desire, and the adjustable boom of the mic helps your own clarity. Once you find which earpiece works for you, you generally have to leave your headset on for a while. I agree that it's difficult to "quickly" slip on or off, but while I'm in gaming mode I just leave it on because it's so comfortable. If you need to get up to get a soda or use the restroom, pull your communicator adapter out (the card you put in your controller) and pocket it, then just plug it back in when you return. In addition to keeping your headset on, the icon will let your team know when you're away.
