I bought Vegas (1) today, installed it, and installed the latest update. However, when I go to launch the game, nothing happens and it just sits at my desktop. I have compatible hardware and everything.

Can anyone help?

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas\Binaries

find R6Vegas_Game.exe and run that instead.

If it still doesn't work, I suggest .... uh, actually I'm not allowed to suggest that.

I got the game yesterday and happened upon the same thing.
You need to restart your computer for the desktop R6V icon to work. I did that and the next time I tried to start the game up, it worked. Probably with new files needed to be written to the registry upon reboot etc etc....

Your problem could be caused by the auto updater which doesn't work properly for everyone...

Download patches 1.05 and 1.06 from RSV PATCHES (http://www.ubi.com/US/Downloads/Info.aspx?dlId=2026) You need to reinstall the game, update to version 1.05, then update to version 1.06.

I tried all that, including attempting to boot the game via R6Vegas_Game.exe in the binaries folder. I even updated my video drivers, but it still doesn't want to launch.

One thing that is curious, however, that might be relevant, is that when ever I boot up, I get a window to 'Choose program to run file', and the file is "Registration Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas". It's curious however, because it popped up even after I uninstalled the game, and I've already registered my game.

Are you running Vista by any chance? If so, you need to shut off UAC.

I, and my friend, had the EXACT same problem until we turned off UAC and rebooted.

Now works like a charm.

Hope that helps.

ok heres what i did when i had the same problem
1) uninstalled the game (make sure you remove save files)
2) went into programs files and deleted 'Ubisoft'
3) Installed game
4) Tested game by opening it from Start menu > all programs > Ubisoft > tom clancies rainbow six vegas >tom clancies rainbow six vegas. NOTE: i did not test out multiplayer
5) quit and rebooted (restarted) system
6) Installed 1.6 patch
7) Rebooted/restarted system
8) Tested game by opening it from Start menu > all programs > Ubisoft > tom clancies rainbow six vegas >tom clancies rainbow six vegas.
9) Installed map pack
10) rebooted/restarted system
11) Tested game by opening it from Start menu > all programs > Ubisoft > tom clancies rainbow six vegas >tom clancies rainbow six vegas.

That's how i got it to work again, and it's been working fine for several days now ^^

By all means manualy update to the 1.6 patch. Many people have trouble with auto update and prefer to do updates manualy. The 1.6 patch is prbably the last patch you will ever have to do because UBI dropped Vegas2 a long time ago.Good luck.
