Hi,

I've been working on a new system for the past week or so, and so far here's what I've put together...
Win Vista Premium 32
Ultra M923 Case
Zerotherm Butterfly CPU Cooler
Silverstone DA 650 Single Rail PSU
Asus M2N-SLI MB
AMD 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition OC to 3.1 Ghz
3 x Western Digital Caviar SE 320 GB HD
4 GB OCZ SLI Ready Dual Channel DDR2 800 Mhz
TSST Corp CD/DVW
EVGA 9800 GTX+ 512 DDR Superclocked Edition

Now, not top of the line but not bad either, and certainly better than what I had before. All temperatures are well within range of acceptable...

I used 3D Mark and got a bench of 1457... I was astonished, the thing was running at like 2-6 FPS.. I would expect a LOT more from this rig... I'm thinking 3DMark might be off, or I didn't run it correctly....Any suggestions ?

First thing you have to do is make sure you have all the drivers loaded, and then that they are the latest available. With that hardware configuration if you can't get over 50 fps in SH4 with graphics wide open and high resolution, there's something seriously wrong.

Looks like a great setup. You'll love it once you get her shipshape!

Thanks for the quick reply... I do need a driver update, apparently, for the GPU... I updated today and when I rebooted, the system told me that the GPU was underpowered and underclocked it big time... I knew this can't be bcos the PSU is pumping 54 amps on the 12 volt rail... more than enough.. So I rolled it back and it was once again running with Core at 777, Shader at 1890, and memory clock at 1123... running cool still with fan at 75 48C. I got a bench of 11,000 on Virtual Mark but for some reason can't get a valid result on 3D Mark... Is FRAPS a valid test if I load up SH4 and check that ?

Oh yea not sure if this matters much or not but when I ran 3DMark I was downloading a Desert Combat mod at the same time...

Just to make sure I will run it with no processes going on ...

God I'm an idjut... I opened the case and realized that there were supposed to be 2 PCI leads connected straight from the PSU to the 9800.... stuck it in and BAM... 80 FPS at full graphics settings http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Told you so. Now you can run rings around this old computer any day!
