Hi,

as part of my wip 7th Fighter Command campaign, I'm trying to recreate the air to air rammings carried out by a number 4th Sentai Ki45 'Nick' pilots on B29's... please could someone let me know if there is a way to get the ai to do this?

Many thanks

Just a thought, because I've been working on a lot of Kamikaze missions lately, but if you match altitudes and times with the target plane at a particular waypoint, and you make the rammer's waypoint it's last one---with "Set" to the rammee's waypoint, it might work.

Hey Snipa, I just tried my suggestion, with/without ammo, various approach speeds and angles, and no dice. The rammer just wants to dogfight (with ammo) or avoid fighting (without).

I'm looking forward to your campaign!

I've not ever found a way to do this either. The closest I came was sitting up two planes to collide mid-air at the beginning of a coop as a kind of exciting intro to an airstarting mission, the idea being to put two separate (i.e. not part of a flight) bombers on a 10 degree convergent course and let them graze each other. The intention was to avoid a massive mid-air explosion and limit the damage to loss of a wing or tailplane, thus giving that slow spiralling descent to earth that is so reminiscent of the contemporary newsreels.

I quickly discovered the difficulties:

The planes have to be really close together! 20 feet max IIRC, otherwise the AI pilots would carry out evasive manouevres and miss.

Secondly, this really needed to be carried out hidden from sight or the resultant effects would lag half the players out. So I set it up within the cloud layer and it worked. It was a startling effect seeing two damaged bombers falling from the sky - but it's not the idea you're looking for I know. I don't think it can be done.

Finally, as a laugh, don't make the elementary mistake that I did - forgetting to assign the TB3's as AI http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif The same guy died three times before I twigged what was happening!
"Aargh! I'm in cloud - aargh, another bomber - aargh, Brando, I'm gonna kill you!" He still hasn't forgiven me. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You can only get the AI to ram each other at the beginning of the mission as stated by x6BL_Brando. The AI has a collision avoidance routine built into them. They will try and avoid hitting each other, but not always successfully.

Brando - loved that story. I can just imagine the poor buggar in the clouds http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

As for the collision thing, can't you just spawn them late in the mission very near each other? It might look a bit strange, I admit, but if they wre not too close to the player it might work, mightn't it?

Use Bf110s. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif They don't have collision avoidance. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
