I could use some tips on dodging destroyers...I think some of the things I thought I understood were wrong.

First of all, is there or is there not a "dead zone" for hydrophones and ASDIC created by exploding depth charges? A couple times now I've tried to use nearby explosions as cover to go to flank and get out of the immediate area, but I'm always detected within about 5 seconds.

Second of all, is it better to go deep when being hunted? I tried coming up to periscope depth just now to get out of the ASDIC cone, and that resulted in near-immediate death by depth charges. I assume there is always some chance of crossing a thermocline when you go deep, but don't know if the game models this?

What do you grizzled veterans do when the destroyers are pissed off and looking for your blood?

Try searching the forum for the word "evade", for example.

Or see Red Devil's site (http://hometown.aol.co.uk/dominicobaggio/SilentHunterIII.html) for a very detailed evasion tutorial.
