Purchasing new equipment and boats.

I've now completed 4 patrols and want to move up to a Type II-D boat. I am in port, have sufficient renown points but just cannot work out how to do it. I've pressed every key and used my mouse buttons on every icon. Nothing says Buy or anything. So how is it done please?

The manual tells me I can uprate but not how to do it, Very disappointed in the manual.

I think this is how it's done: Go to main menu screen with the top-down view of an office-like room. Put cursor over desk at lower right; it highlights and the word UBOAT appears. Click. On resulting screen, click on the small u-boat icon that's left of conning tower and weapons icons. If you're qualified to upgrade to the IID, it's text ("IID") should appear below & to the left of the sub icon. Put your cursor over the "IID". It should turn orange. Double-click on it. A dialog box should appear saying something like "Are you sure?" Click yes. Go back to the office-like screen. You should notice right away that the calender will be flipping through dates indicating the time taken readying the sub for service.

It worked. However I lost it when I tried to delete one of my 1st patrol saved files. I also lost, at the same time, all the saves for my 4th and 5th patrols. I still have the 3rd patrol file left so I'll start again from there. All this by just deleting one file? Still I do know how to get new equipment.

I also wanted to start a second career but I'm not allowed? I cannot add a new name in either the top box or the bottom one, is this normal?

To get new equipment click on the desk on the right hand side of the screen. There will be a pic of you current sub. Below this is wordings for the different upgradable items first would be u-boat. If you click on this it will show you the types available. Double click the one you want. It will show a "Are you sure?" box. If you click yes and you already have what you clicked it will show a "You already have it." box. Also pay attention on the right side of the screen this will show you the cost in renown to get the item. If you don't have enough renown (shown at top left of screen) you, of course can not buy that item. One thing to remember is that new upgrades come along slowly. You can look at the date in the upper left, then click on the question mark box in the lower right. This will show you a timeline of when different options were available. Just do the same thing with each of the rest of the areas and it will show you what is currently available. Some will be blank, meaning nothing new developed. One of the ones you can generally immediatly upgrade is your sonar. Another thing to remember on available sub types. If you were stationed in Kiel you would never be able to get the IX or XXI as the flotila based in kiel never had those types. You would need to transfer to either the 2nd flotila or the 10 flotila to get a type IX. However 2nd flotila wasn't formed until early 41 if I remember. So to get different u-boat types you have to click on the telephone on the middle desk to transfer to a different flotila with different types of u-boats.

When you pick career it should come up with a box with "Start a new career." and "Load a Saved Career.".
