Hello All.
Could someone tell me if the keypad commands are the same as SH4? if not where do I get them from. I have just received this program as a gift and unfortunately my knowledge on computers are at kindergarten level, any other help would be much appreciated, I have v1.2

Comp: i7920, GTX 570sc, 6GB Ram, 24" widescreen, OS W7HP

Used to use keys all the time, but since playing again I haven't really used them at all since TheDarkWraith's UI 6.8.0 gives you access to basically everything from the UI itself. Mostly thanks to the great officer bar from SH3.

There are a few keyboard mods and TDW's UI even includes an option to display like SH4's UI, but I highly suggest learning the SH5 Extended view it defaults to.

Hello EOWETH.

I'm sorry to ask you this but I need you to help clarify a couple of things ( due to my limited knowlegde on all things computer!!).

What does UI mean?
What does TDW mean
What do you mean by "Extended view, defaults

As I say, I'm very sorry, but your help is really appreciated.

Regards,
Jim.

No problem at all!

UI means "User Interface", it's what the game controls look like.

TDW is shorthand for "TheDarkWraith". He's a player that has arguably done more for Silent Hunter 5 to make it playable than Ubisoft themselves have.

The Extended View means it's similar to the style of the SH5 Default UI but adds many new features. Here's some examples:

This is the default SH5 UI:

And here's the latest version of the TDWNewUI_6_8_0:

(View full size (http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/2950/sh5newui680.jpg))

You can see they are similar, but the NewUI mod adds more information and features.

These pictures are older but show how the same fully features UI mod from TheDarkWraith can be made to look like Silent Hunter 3 (http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/8361/uish3style.jpg) or even Silent Hunter 4 (http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/5958/uish4style.jpg)!

There's more to it than just the actual buttons. TDW's New UI mod adds a persistent journal across patrols, many new features, clocks, alarm clocks, chalkboards, better UI, fixed hydrophone bugs, working dials, working equipment (like the radio antenna you see in the first image here) and so much more. With the current mods Silent Hunter 5 isn't at all the same game it started out as. It's much better. If only Ubisoft would let us play it without having to depend on their servers being up.

Hope that clears things up. If not, feel free to ask for more clarification! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You can download the NewUI from the link in this thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1769070&postcount=8037). To actually install it you'll want to use JSGME. Here's some instructions (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1309434&postcount=2) for how to do that.
