So I chose one or two (sometimes three) people out of each "criteria group" (ie all the registrants having the same values for all three criterias). I chose less when the group was less interesting : people who never played any major strategy game are less likely to end up really testing and buying Heroes 5. Just as those who played absolutely all of them : they'll be with us in any case probably. In other groups I chose more : those people who played many or most RTS, and perhaps one or two TBS, but who never tried Heroes, we need to attract them - and there's no reason why they wouldnt like the game.

In one particular "criteria group", the choice is down to a selection of country, and age. I try to keep a volume of testers from different origins, with the major markets dominating, of course. On average, one selected tester out of five is american, one out of six is german, one out of seven is french. Then one out of 15 is russian, and one out of 20 : english, spanish, polish. The countries who registered heavily, like hungary or israel, have been selected more often than normal. And finally, with any country with more than ten registrants, I selected at least one guy.
Regarding age, I restrained from choosing minors, for legal reasons. However the average age of selected testers is not far from the average of registrants. For "sensitive" countries regarding piracy, like Russia, I restrained from picking people below about 25. Otherwise I tried to keep a wide age panel from each country.

When I couldnt decide between some people with the same origin, I tried to select girls whenever possible, although they were rare. I also took into account the quality of writing one's name (capitals for instance), and the quality or meaning, or "agressiveness" of the login. "ILUVVV4R3Z", for instance, was a clear no-no.

After a first run through the base with this method, selecting about 100 people an hour, I established averages to check I was in line with the objectives, and went through the base again to make corrections, taking the communities lads into account.

For the second push and the other ones, the process is pretty much similar, caring mostly about average country origin or age. And also checking that some valuable forum mascots are not left out in the cold.

I can't blame you, but can't you belive me when I swear that I will not leak anything. All my Heroes games are original from the box. One even imported! (H3 SoD) Well, I don't know if my oath can do. Looks like I will have to wait the final version (sighs).
PS: I didn't mean that I have pirate games when I said that my heroes games are original. I only have images for better performance, but that's all. Closest I come to piracy was lending games to friends.(and some never give them back... I'm still waiting for the H4 back from a friends, and H3 complete set...)

Sadly it looks like there is not much of a chance for me.

Im from a small country, so not many will be selected, and with the "profiling" done, I think I'm out of luck cause one of my friends was chosen, and he has basically the same "profile" (game exp, age, gender, country and so forth) as me.

This may have 3 possible outcomes for me:

If the beta mails get sent in the next 30 minutes, and I'm in, I'll be able to start downloading right off.. then go in another town while it's downloading.

If I'm in and the beta mails do NOT get sent in the next 30 min.. I'm gonna have to call my sister from the other town and do the step-by-step protocol of turning on the computer, 2x clicking on the icon with the 2 tft monitors... untill I get her to download the beta.

If I'm not in I'm just gonna spend my whole time hoping I do get in and spamming my refresh inbox button on one of the internet cafe browsers.

Indeed "it's not going to be the end of the world if the new testers aren't going to be picked/mailed today", but at least they should tell us that it will be delayed/on schedule, and not wait until 23:59... Im not rushing anyone, but this waiting without knowing can make one very nervous... (and i'm sure that many here will agree with me)

I guess you haven't read FC post about how he selects people?? - He clearly states that there are specific criterias reagarding country, experince, age and so forth. So NO everybody do not have the same probability - in fact if your friend is the same age and nationality as you, the fact that he got picked lowers your probability.

Of course you cant stop people from lying on the registration form but if you registered with your true age then you wont get in (and the fact that you have posted it here ensures that they will know if you lied)

Thats irrelevant. The 12+ is the parental guidence for people playing the game.

The reason he doesnt pick minors is because of the NDA - they cant enforce it for minors as they arent legally responsible and cant sign a contract.

Basically you can leak all the content you want if you are a minor, and Ubisoft cant sue you - cause you are not legally responsible for your actions. Thats why no minors are allowed.

Well, I seem to remember FC stating that if you're under 18, you can get in, but you parents will take the consequences for you if you break the NDA.

Technically those under 18 may not get in but IIRC invitations to those that are young were few & far between.
