Looking for tips on the best place, best enemy to attempt this trophy

I have read that this is the sequence in which the combo needs to be performed.

Square, Square, Square, Triangle, Square, Triangle, Cross, Triangle, Square, Triangle, Circle, Triangle, Square

Should that be broken down into smaller combos?

I feel like i have performed this 3 or 4 times already, although it is difficult to tell since i have some paper with the sequence written down that i occasionly have to glance at, it will get easier as i memorize the sequence.

For those of you who have unlocked this trophy already, does it unlock immediately after the combo is performed, or after the enemy has been defeated?
