I for one will not buy this game if there is no selector switch and it seems at this point in time there is none. its already obvious the game is geared towards Run n Gun, but im just hoping they keep atleast some of the things that made me love GR in the past and not totally sell out the hardcore fans for a quick buck and some biased reviews

If they get rid of being able to switch weapons from semi to full auto...it'd be inexcusable.

Even Ubisoft CANNOT be THAT stupid.
Can they?

I think it doesnt matter because its a dumb option anyway!
I don't think this is fair to the dev team. We can't know what they are thinking and they don't make all the decisions concerning the game. Or they just didn't show different rates of fire in the demos. As others have said, the demos were to show the most exciting parts of GR:FS so I don't think changing the rate of fire would be included http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Personally I hope you can change the rate of fire. I like to play with single shot rifles in old GR multiplayer to increase the challenge. It makes it funner and it feels more tactical. But I guess we will see when the game comes out.

No you didn't, 'coz you were fourteen then and New Zealand did support GR on-line back then.

Well, since they are likely to have infinite ammunition pistols like most of their recent games...
I don't see the rate of fire being a problem. After all, use up all you ammo, pull out your pistol and bunny hop your way to victory!
It works. It's DUMB, but it works. If it is dumb but it works, then it is not dumb, right? Wrong, it is STILL dumb.
I can see them having the script decide when to select full auto or semi auto for you. That is a hard decision after all, and they don't want player's minds overtaxed. Its an extra one of those 'millions' of buttons that is not really needed in a modern (read run and gun) shooter.
I can just see some corporate weenie saying that in a meeting and everyone agreeing with him. /facepalm

There is simply NO argument AGAINST an ROF selector.
It simply is too awesome. I like having the ability to go from a Auto (CQB) to Single (for more precise and aimed distance shots)

What if their is no medium to long distance shooting in the game. Then there is no call for single rate of fire.
The devs could use that excuse.

D-pad up is assigned to "Alt Fire" which sounds like it could be either a fire rate select or a GL toggle (or both). If it's not that then we're in trouble because the "A" button has been reassigned to Gears of War mode: cover toggle / roadie run.
LT - Aim
RT - fire
LB - Use Item
RB - Coordinate
L thumb - Move (Click for shoulder swap)
R thumb - Look (Click for iron sights)
A - Cover (Hold for roadie run)
B - Crouch (Hold for prone)
X - Reload / Contextual action
Y - Switch weapon
Dpad-up - Alt Fire
Dpad-left/right - Switch items
Dpad-down - Switch view
Start - Pause

I think I saw in one of the videos that the circle around the gun had information about ammo and it also showed a row of bullets, likely to show which rate of fire you're on.

Going by the demo mission....there is plenty of medium range shooting http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Makes about as much sense as not having squad commands in a Ghost Recon game.
(edit) Actually Conviction didn't have fire select, so why would this? They took most of the features from Conviction. and why would Special Ops soldiers NOT want to spray and pray?

Well... that is nice.
But does that mean that YOU can switch the rate of fire, or does the GAME do it for you?

It's hard to tell, but I think he's actually doing that on his own by tapping the trigger quickly. On one shot he messes up and fires off a two round burst.
