Hi All

Had an issue with my main desktop PC that involved me having to fry my HDD and reinstall OS.
Not good.....!

Problem I have is that when I run SH4 with RFB and RSRD I have had no contacts, I have benn on two patrols and came across four IJN destroyers sunning themselves off Tarakan. I don't even get a sighting of the usual pairs of sanpan that always appeared.

Prior to my HDD issue running the same mods I was getting regular contacts.

I started my career on the Jan 19th 1942 option from Surabaya and have been patrolling the Celebes Sea area as instructed.

I'm sure I was getting more contacts than I am now........I could be wrong?

Any advice. I do know that the DEI was fairly quite in the first quarter of 1942 so maybe I'm expecting too much.....?

Cheers in advance!

RFB with RSRDC is pretty accurate with it's shipping/convoy and TF routes. Many users complain of not having enough contacts early in the war. I would venture to say that if things don't eventually pick up, then maybe there's a problem. Right now though, I'd say your experiencing the same frustration that we've all endured, until we learned where all the early shipping was concentrated. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Still can't believe you purposely fried your HD. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Cheers WernherVonTrapp for your prompt reply.....

Clove of garlic and a shimmer of sesame oil always does the trick with a dodgy HDD...........I formatted my HDD (backing up to an ext is always the way forward!). Though I didn't back up my saves from SH4.......doh!

Yeah, thought that that maybe the issue with my 'lack' of contacts. I don't remember them being so sparse prior though.

I'll persevere as you suggest and see what prevails.

Any other culinary tips, don't be shy you just give me a holler....... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Cheers again

If you're not too frugal with your fuel, you might wanna give the South China Sea a gander. A lot of tankers pass through there on their way from the Dutch East Indies to the Imperial Homeland. Also a lot of merchants from Java, Singapore, etc. Lot of early TFs near Java, Luzon, San Bernardino Strait, etc.

Ha.........was just away to start moving to better waterways when I stumbled upon a freighter.
Due to limited time (weather and visibility issues aswell) had to line up for stern shot......and lo......two dud torpedoes.....ah well.....lol

cheers

I am fairly low on fuel and Surabaya is no longer available so may head to Darwin, refuel and head back to the Balikpapan area for potentially rich pickings......we'll see!

Has any body tried the 'Fall of the Rising Sun' mod?
I sourced it and tried it but haven't really gotten in to it yet. Any comments?

Cheers

As stated RSRD is historical, almost perfect, but often patrol zones come up dry. The patrol zones in RSRD usually place you near where a TF or convoy will come by, but the issue is timing.
Say you get a patrol zone, the group coming through will still come by on it's set date, so if you take too long getting there or get there early and complete the zone you may miss it. If you're gonna do patrol zones go right to them and wait around a few days after the star is greyed out.

You don't get punished for not going to a patrol zone, so most go looking for shipping.
You were in Sura Jan, about Feb 28 the invasion of Java took place, so all along the coast and in the Java Sea you can almost walk on TF and convoys, some 60 ships or more.

Take a look at this thread where a few of us posted some maps for early war, all these groups are in RSRD, including correct dates and courses.

Hi All

After what would be regarded as a fairly lean first two patrols my third (from Fremantle) gets me 21814 tonnes.....ace.....three ships and now as I type chasing down a freighter for ship #4........only four torpedoes left and they're stern based soooo can only pop off two at a time. What do you think the likelyhood some of them being 'dud'......wish me luck!

Two at a time should be enough. After all, you do have a deck gun you can use to finish it off with.

Yeah..!! The deck gun is great for finishing off a crippled merchie. Just be advised that they are also armed, so aim to take out their guns first, then go for the hull...
