Question: "To what extent can we customize characters that directly affect game play (load-outs, etc.)?" - Elliot Nahm
Answer:
Think of every time you watched a gun ad, drooling over that latest modular rifle that can be slapped together in a new configuration before you can yell ‘Booyeah’. Out of your reach? Not anymore. This is customization, Ghost Recon style.
With up to 7 attachment hardpoints per weapon and myriad attachment options, choices are not in short supply. Custom build a gun that you can trust with your life. Take that government-issue stock weapon and optimize it to suit your goals. A quiet approach with a silencer, or precise shots from atop a bipod? Why not pick both? The choice is yours.
Every weapon attachment has a gameplay effect that mirrors its real world counterpart. Understanding these benefits and disadvantages is key to creating a weapon catered to a Ghost’s unique play style. Bipods are cumbersome but reduce recoil and improve accuracy while in cover and prone. Silencers reduce damage by using subsonic ammo, but improve accuracy while reducing recoil, muzzle flash and noise, helping to conceal a firing position. Careful with the tacticool, though: Every component has weight, and heavier weapons are just slower on the draw.
Other options include choice of sidearm, various grenades, upgradable tactical support electronics like the Specialist’s EMP module, and a wide range of armor inserts to improve survivability. Insert materials include ceramic plates to reduce bullet damage, and haemostatic impregnated inserts that allow a Ghost to better survive wounds.
So…to what extent can we customize characters in ways that directly affect gameplay? A heck of a lot.
P.S. What you’ve seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg. There are rumors of more aesthetic customization options, secret weapon testing ranges, special ammo and variant weapons with unique modifications (to name a few). But that’s classified. For now…
