I created Heroes, and JVC stole the idea from me. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Joking. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I play it since H3. In 2000 I got my first computer, and Heroes is one of the first games I tried (and the only one that really got me hooked).

Got my first Mac in late of 1995 and Heroes 2 was one of the first very addinting games I bought (no Heroes 1 in stores for Mac at that time). Got Heroes 1 quite soon after that (in Blitz collection with C&C, Mac Attack, Sim tower etc. classics).

Interesting: people that post tend to be in the H2-H3 range (exactly 90% of posts up to mine), but people that vote and do not post tend to be earlier.

btw, H2 here.

Well I started since Heroes 3 but I played it only once by my friend and some days later I found Heroes II by the the same friend and so I asked him if I can have the cd(It was a fullversion but not the original cd...)And so started the "Heroes-mania"
Than my friend laughted at me because I was sill playing Heroes II and not III...
Than I asked him the cd for Heroes III and I wanted to play it, but my dammned computer AMD K6 couldn't install the gamehttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
And I had to play Heroes II again...
When I was in Italy(on holidays)I found a Heroes Pack including Heroes I , II & III so I bought it and started to play Heroes I with my cousin in Italy(had also a bad computer...)
The hole holidays I played Heroes I, Heroes II was to complicated for him, even if he was only one year younger than me(And I was at least 16)...
Back in Switzerland I tried to install Heroes III but it also didn't work...
So I continued to play Heroes II until the day when a friend told me that he bought an expansion for Heroes III(Heroes SoD) and you didn't need the original Heroes III cd!!
Since that day I played only Heroes III SoD and I loved it more than Heroes II(and Heroes I of caurse http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)
Some years later I bought Heroes IV http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif , I installed it played it at most 4 hours and deinstalled it. I've never played it again...And I won't play it again...
Now up and then I play Heroes III but not so frequentely like before.
So thats my little story about Heroes
...and I hope that the story won't finish here!!

I went back to try H1, but H2 is more fun. H3 is even better. H4 < H1.... H4 < homework at times....

Well, if you're going to count Kings Bounty as a "Heroes" game, then I'm going to say I've been playing "Heroes" since 1987 when the FIRST "Heroes" game came out. Might and Magic Book One: Secret of the Inner Sanctum. Seeing as how Crag "THE" Hack was in THAT game, it should count as "heroes" too. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

In other words, H1 was my first heroes game. Kings Bounty isn't "Heroes". It's VERY similar...but it's not "Heroes". http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

~edit~ And FYI, yes...Heroes 1 came out in 1995. I'm looking at the manual right now. I bought it the day it was released (as I have ALL M&M titles since M&M2 came out) *grin* Yes, yes...I know. I need serious help. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Long long ago, I started playing M&M1 and M&M2. During those days, I was highly impressed at the great work done by New World Computing. So imagine my surprise when I went to the store one day and see another different game, "Kings Bounty" that is published by NWC. I bought it immediately, since I know that NWC always produces good games.

Kings Bounty turns out to be drastically different from any of the M&M game that I have ever played. All the other M&M game were RPG where you have a team of 6 to 8 characters. Kings Bounty introduce a new concept of hiring a small army to fight for you. You can hire orcs, ogre, and even dragons, etc. You starting heroes can be a Warrior, Barbarian, Sorceress or Archmage. The game play was very refereshing and attracted soon Kings Bounty attracted a large group of followers. In those days, if you have an all team with all flyers (dragons, archmages, etc.) your entire team can fly from 1 continent to the next. It was great to play. New World Computing have just started a new genre of turn-based strategy game, totally different from the role-playing game that it has been producing.

Well... that my friend was the start of the HOMM series. Many of the monsters that are recruitable in Kings Bountry turned up in HOMM1 with different graphics. Many of the game mechanics in the 2 games were similiar. Instead of the 4 different continents in Kings Bountry, HOMM1 allow the user / developer to create any number of different maps. The graphics in HOMM1 were beautiful and cartoon like. It was a great success.

After so many years, once in a while I would still like to play HOMM1 for nostalgia's sake. It is simple and fun.

*grin* Yes, I'm aware of this opinion. But MY opinion is that if you want to look at it from that perspective, then why not take it one step further and say that the original Might and Magic game was the first "Heroes" game. It had many of the same elements in it that Heroes later expanded upon. But I digress...Heroes 1 is the FIRST Heroes game. Period. Kings Bounty was Kings Bounty....not Heroes .5

Been playing since Heroes II, my frieds had played it for a while, even though hardly knew how, and they asked me to play HotSeat with them. Thats the start, I actually still can remember a part of the first game I played. One of the earliest "big" fights were against Archmages, I had Rocs. I attcked them from front instead of how my friends adviced - from the side to block the others from shooting :P

I was sure that there wouldn't be a game that I'll play as much as HoMM II.

Then came Heroes III...

I started playing Heroes 2 and Might and Magic 7 at the same time, when I got my first computer in 1999- so I fall under the Heroes 3 chategorie.- Althoug I almoust only play the campaigns in HoMM3, most of the scenarios don´t have enough story http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

I´ve played all the Heroes and Kings Bounty, I´ve also played all Might and Magic games, except 3.

I started to play HOMM some half a year ago, so I am a newbie. To be honest, I had got a pirate version of HOMM3 ROE and tried it. I liked it so much that I started to browse the Web for some info. When I realized that the Polish version of H3 Complete is still available and very cheap (some 4-5 euro), I immediately bought it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Before HOMM my favourite game was Sid Meier's Civilization (I have played it since Civ1). While IMO Civ is the Queen of strategic games, HOMM has a better climate http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I am looking forward HOMM V but, however, I am afraid of its requirements.

My Heroes experience starts with KB, but I really didn't get addicted until HOMM: A Strategic Quest. Until then I played Final Fantasy and other Nintendo games, and on my Mac, played PoP and other cool games, but when Heroes of Might and Magic came out - with all the music and beautiful artwork and creatures... I fell for it.

Since Heroes of Might and Magic II came out fairly quickly after HOMM1, I would say that I truly was enveloped into the atmosphere. Although HOMM3 and HOMM4 have given me endless hours of pleasure, nothing will ever replace HOMM2 as my favorite version of the game.

I've never liked a single game better at the time that I've played it then I did with either Heroes of Might and Magic I and II.

I remember that I saved a lot of money up for a quite a few months at that time of my life, because all I did was work, sleep and play HOMM.

Heroes I, baby! Played it so much I wore by poor ol' 486 out. Sometimes had to wait five minutes for the computer players to finish their turns.

It was the comical death sound effects that got me hooked. Sometimes I'll fire it up just to hear the "Graw!" of a dying Phoenix or the "Ah!" of a dying peasant.

my heroes story began in 1998. When I was at college, the small dorm room was our temple. together with my dorm mates, we started to play heroes II. We spent days and nights even studying times.6 people were sitting infront of one computer and every turns had been studied very carefully. those heroes seats are the great times i have ever spend in college. still i communicate with my friends and they play heroes as well.

I started with Heroes of Might & Magic 2 Demo from the CD of a french magazine bought for me by my father, in 1998, `cause then I bought my first computer. After I played the demo I felt in love with the game. And since then I let the RTS games for this TBS amazing game.

When I saw Heroes 3 I was stunned. I played it day and night. And when Heroes 4 came out, I was also impressed. It seemed like a different game, more different strategies, the players were more equal as ever, the graphics were better, but i got dissapointed there was no multiplayer in the first edition. And that draqged the game down.

Now I am waiting for the Heroes V to come out. I cannot wait to play it.

My first HoMM experience was with a friend LANning it via IPX. I watched him play it all day, as I usually do the get the hang of a game and then we played a XL map with 6 players, all on all.

This is when it had just come out in Australia. We sat up LANning until 5am the next morning, trying to kill each other. Please note that I played it on Impossible, so I was attacked by the AI left, right and centre.

We spend the next four days playing this map, stopping on for food and five hours naps at 5am each day. It was great fun, escpecially my first siege battle: I was defending my castle against 4 black dragons among other things with my 50 grand elves and 20 arch druids. I won after about 30 minutes and had only 3 grand elves left. It was very interesting and it certainly impressed my friend and his brother.

I have been hooked ever since, and can't wait for HV to arrive in Oz.

BTW, this was HoMM2.

It started with my first H2 experience in 1996 and after becoming an addict it later went on with the glorious H3. And then H4. It was sadly a total disappointment, all thats left in my mind is that awkward beady spider with someone driving in it ; walking with clumsy steps lol sort of a nightmare. I still keep on playing H3 . After I memorized all the Restoration of erathia and Shadow of death maps i started to make my own maps (thanks to the map editor) and some had been a success in my opinion . By the way is there anyone to share their self-made maps ? That would be a great experience . Thank you all for sharing your experience

I started with Kings Bounty 2 - a Russian game made by an enthusiast. Then I got Heroes of Might and Magic (1) and played it lots and lots, hot seat with a friend back in Russia. We also did a HOMM outfit to our "Headquarters" - a shed where we used to hang out - it was renamed into "stick hut" because we were into making crossbows at that stage (like the orc dwelling).

Then I moved to NZ and got HOMM2, played it lots hotseat with another friend and made Valera's COOL HOMM2 Page http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Played HOMM3 lots too, made the site into Age of Heroes and started Heroes Community.

I got HOMM4 late after release and didn't play it much. Abandoned the sites a bit.

Recently got back into site making and played HOMM4 more - writing strategies for it got me interested.

I'll soon recieve the H4 Card Game so there will be some good hot seat action without a computer! And of course I will be kicking *** when HOMM5 comes out http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I played heroes 1, but i didn't play 2 or 3 because i didn't know they existed till i accidently found 4 in my local Wal-Mart.

Started with Heroes 1. At first I thought the game was crappy, but then I tried it again and I was hooked. Heroes II was the best version IMO. III was good, but I don't care for the Demon and Angel element and upgrading every single troop. 5 sounds similar to 3 but it does look fanatasic, hopefully it plays as good as it looks.
