Just for the heck of it I ran 46 stock using the switcher.. I found that running the same mission I get @ 20-30 FPS more with the stock sim. Now as most of you know.. I use mods and I like the ones I use... and I intend to keep using them.. but just to remind yourself what a real gem this sim is I recommend that all of you fly stock for at least one mission at least once a month. For me it did a few things. It helped me to get a handle on some tech issues I was having because it pointed me to mods that were giving me problems.. It also gave me a greater appreciation for what I like about the mods I use.... and lastly and most importantly.. it gave me a chance to remember why some incarnation of this software has been on my HD since 2002. Most of the mods are great.... I like the 6DoF, the sound, the hotkeys mod, the skin AC mod and some others... but I still say that stock out of the box.. this sim is still the bee's knees and if it had never been made we wouldn't be enjoying what we now have. The mods fill some gaps for sure.. but for me... the stock sim was nothing to sneeze at. I think sometimes some of us get so into the mods that we forget where it all came from..

What does the hotkeys mod do BC?And yes you do have a point ,the original game is still the gem that the mods add polish to...I still think the MK103s are the best sound in the whole game stock or modded.

Bearcat you are 100% right,IL-2 is still the duck n#%s of combat flight sims modded or not,
I too love the mods but still find a certainly pure enjoyment that come from IL-2 stock that reminds me why i started playng this game in the first place. And amazingly I still think it has much to give http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

The stock sim is very well done and it is nice to run it on occasion. Then back to the mods to enjoy them also.

The hotkeys mod was actually merged with the bombbay doors mod and it does a few things...

- Manually open/close bomb bay doors.
- Manually open/close side cockpit door on Spitfire XIV.
- Display TAS in addition to IAS in the speedbar. (also requires the HUDConfig mod)
- Separate gear up/down controls.
- Separate tailhook up/down controls.
- **NEW** Separate radiator open/close controls
- **NEW** Toggle music on/off while flying.
- **NEW** Modified airshow smoke.
- The server can set various limited external view options while 'No External Views' is turned on.
-- External view only of player's own aircraft.
-- External views only while player is on the ground.
-- External views only when player is dead.
-- **NEW** External views of friendlies only.
</sub>

There is also a nice minimap mod that lets you zoom in and out on the minimap. This works in the mission brief map or in the mission map.

I still play stock coops because missons are only as good as the misson maker is,some of the most talented misson makers have not gone mods, mods are great but without a good misson they are worthless...

Hey Bearcat, you know, people sit on Hyperlobby and they say to me "hey danjama why are you hosting missions with no mods, dont you use them?", and i explain to them, mods are not the be all and end all, and there are many people not using mods. When they load their game up, the first thing they say is "man i forgot how quick the game loaded without mods". This is one of the main reasons i run co-ops without mods. The game is flawlessly smooth. I get 60-90fps with about 40% less stutters than with mods on. Plus, the content isn't exactly shabby is it?

People are beginning to forget what a gem this sim was before we had mods, and many say to me "OMG this game would be dead without mods, it sux" and i just think, shutup talking to me you ****, you have no idea what you're talking about...il2 is the nuts. Always will be, mods or no mods. On that note, i'm now going to host some No Mods 408 coops http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Anybody joining with mods is kicked by me personally, when i explicitly tell all No mods. Ignorance is something i can't stand, and you can always tell the mods users by their crys of "OMG i can only choose B17 why can't i pick the fighters!!!"

Who needs a switcher? I have two installs on the same hard drive, one mod and one stock. I have an icon on my desktop for each. Both work perfectly and with about the same FPS. But I only have a few basic mods installed. Not really into it.

The mod that REALLY got my attention was Buffy's Flacks, changed the game for me.

Switcher is more for people who play online frequently, so rather than change the game path in hyperlobby every time you join a sever with a different version, you just click the switcher. For offline though, two installs is just as good.

And +1 to buffy flak, be sure to download the battle sounds addon that works with it. First time I had both going at the same time and started getting flakk I 'bout messerschmitted my pants!

I have noticed as soon as patches are applied and loaded, even oleg il-2 patches the game slows down appreciably. This happens in all flight sims i have used. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
