Hi im new to the whole splinter cell thing, it looked an intresting game from gametrailers.com. But when i play it's insanly hard to do stealth moves even on easy!!

I've been behind the bad guy on the mountain and all i manage to do is elbow him and interogate it doesn't have a keyboard mapping for breaking their necks or slashing can i assume it's all random?

So far i've gone through the game using the main weapons as it's easier to take down the bad guys, i've shot out lights but they can still see me in pitch black darkness!!

Can someone please explain to me step by step how you can kill baddies with stealth moves. I would check out the training videos in the game but the demo crashes everytime i try to.

Pay attention to your sound meter, maybe that's what's giving you away in the dark. Secondly, if you're playing on PC then Left mouse button will kill the enemy and Right mouse button will knock them out. On Xbox it's right trigger for lethal, and left trigger for non-lethal. Depending on what direction you're coming from will determine the animation you get (Example...coming from behind an enemy and hitting right mouse button/left trigger will punch the enemy in the temple and knock him out.)...the game is all about stealth, so don't be seen, or heard. Cling to the shadows and walk softly. Strike only when the time is right, dont rush it or you'll probably die.

You don't have to grab an enemy to perform a lethal/non-lethal attack. Just get close enough and hit the appropriate button.

Well, if you're playing the PC, here's the deal with default controls.

The left click is "lethal" and the right click is "non-lethal." If you approach a guard and left click, you will stab/slash him. Which will it be? Well, it all depends on your angle of attack and whether or not you are running. The bottom line is you will kill using the knife.

If you approach and use "non-lethal", or right click, you will do an omega punch, a knee, or a punch to the head. Again, this depends on your angle of attack and if you are running or not.

If you grab someone, you'll have two choices. Left click is a knee to the back. This can be done to knock people off cliffs as well. I'm not sure whether or not that is lethal. The right click will KO the guard by choking him out.

Hope that helps.

PS: there are two meters. One is a vision meter, the other is a sound meter. You must keep both of those below the threshold to remain unseen.

Also, if they get close enough (like right on you) they will notice you. It also makes sense that they would because if someone was right infront of you even if it waz pitch black, you would still notice them.

You surely should watch the training videos. You would've known then how the game works http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

She'd mentioned the game crashes to desktop when she tries to watch them, which sucks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Pretty much all the replies you got will get you in the right direction on how to get through it more easily. Always keep a good eye on your light and sound meters .. they definitely make the difference of whether or not your discovered or not. And the closer the guys are to you, the slower and more cautious you need to move to get to them. Happy gaming http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yea, I remember when I first tried the demo I died like ten times in a row before finally beating it, and even then it took me like 50 minutes. And I just got done beating SC1 and SC2 so it wasn't like I was rusty or anything, the game is just crazy, but a whole lot funner than the first two. Don't give up!

Word of advice:
Take your time and be careful at the top of the light house.

A super easy way to take care of the lighthouse guard is to fire a sticky cam onto the rotating spotlight from the base of the ladder, then use its whistle to bring the guy in there ... when he's right up to it, use the smoke and put him to sleep http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

It seems he doesn't really "hear" it unless he's near the doorway, next to the switch.

Hey Terrax, I may try that one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Try at your own risk ... You may get a little dizzy when in the cam's POV since it's spinning round and round http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif .. it works like a charm though.

You can watch the training videos for the Xbox contorls on IGN. I know it doesn't help much with controls, but it does let you know about how to play.

If, for whatever reason, you cannot watch the training videos in the demo, there's an easy way around it. Just hop on over to www.radgametools.com (http://www.radgametools.com) , and download the Bink and Smacker set. It's free, and the videos are in .bik format. That way you can play them directly out of the demo. This is the direct link to the download page: http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm , and the one you want is The RAD Video Tools . It's a 1.2 meg download, so it's not bad at all to get.

A cool idea, I just tried it. It doesn´t work at the spotlight (PC), so I simply shot the cam at a window; when the guard heard the noise he lit a flare and came in to have a look, I gave him some smoke, and lol, the funniest thing was, as he started to cough he fell down trough the skylight directly in front of Sam´s feet. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Well I gave it another go after reading all your advice i found it alot easier, i managed to do most of the slashes front and back. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm up to the light house now yey go me! Thanks again for your advice it helped alot, i think i was very frustrated at it as the training videos crashed the game and it was a bit of a guessing game what to do i don't give up easy though. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I will definatly put it on my list of things to getl maybe play with you cool peeps on the muti side...anyways thanks again.

after taken out the guy fixing the gate go out to the zipline. but before you jump to it shoot the lights in the lighthouse. the patroling guard will draw a flare and look around for a bit, but he is back to normal before you reach the top. this makes it pretty simple to take out the guard, since its total darkness

I can see you are new to the stealth genra. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Always good to see new 'uns, as long as they don't play it like a shooter. My advice, TAKE YOUR TIME. Take alot of time to do things right, and quicksave, quicksave, QUICKSAVE until you get teh hang of it. You just need to get the feel of it.

Don't be afraid to try new things. One thing I've come to depend on in the splinter cell series are little details. Pipes you can climb, ledges you can shimmy across. While nothing is esspecially prominent in this demo, anything you can do to stay out of everyone else's way can go a long distance toward keeping you alive. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Deffinitely hang around. Multiplayer modes are esspecially refreshing.
