Gonna be splashing out on a new rig next week and have seen that there have been problems with dual core cpus and 1900 xt graphic cards. Any tips appart from the obvious patches etc? Will be a 4400x2 with a 1900 xt card. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

My biggest tip would be to wait a few months mate http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

DX10 & Crysis will dictate my next upgrade...

There have been very mixed results for people with the X1900 series, some have found Far Cry to be plug and play and look beautiful, others cant get it working at all.
I think it all stems back to the fact that the card wasnt around at the time of the last patch...

As for dual core, the last patch AMD released seems to have fixed the problems that users were having.

I'll second the "wait and see" for DX10. They "should" be out (way?) before Vista.
But I'd wait for Vista release and benchies/reviews/comments from DX10 card users.

Kinda interested in the rest of the "new system" specs though?

I have to say that you should consider an Intel core 2 duo system. Even the modestly priced processors beat top end AMD chips.

I was thinking of waiting for dx10 etc but I dont want to run vista for at least 6 months after it has been out and properly beta tested by the masses http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif and am getting a good price from my local computer shop on some parts that belong at the moment to the shop owner. Basically the graphic card will be new and the rest 3 months old so still 21 months garantee on them.
basically ( as well as I can remember) is the x2 4400 (overclocked and been running stable for 2 months)@ 2.5ghz. 2 gig OCZ preformance ram. Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe mainboard and the 1900xt graphic card. Drives etc are then butchered from my old shuttle system and a good part ex on the rest.

So I am getting it all now as my 3200xp is not really cutting the mustard now and need to update to pcie etc etc. Was gonna use my ram so a Conroe with new ram was gonna be a bit expensive but am getting a strait swap on the ram as the guy wants to sell m board, cpu and ram together so that all the timmings etc dont need to be changed. So thats why AMD not intel. All in all with part ex will be costing about 500" with 21 months garantee from a shop 2km from where I live with very good after sales service!

Sounds logical. What kind of PSU you planning on running?

Well the things been bought and is running! Wow no probs on Farcry with some real good fps on Mp (over the hundred with things maxed on 1280). 5900 on 3d mark 06 and 11000 on 05. Loving it lol. Psu is a bit on the low side @ 400 watt but am assured that it ran an SLI setup with no probs but it along with the comp as a whole is silent as F?&% and will be even quieter when the new cooliing for the gp comes into the shop! Thanks for the interest guys allways good to come here for tech stuff as most you lot seem to know your stuff http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
