Even though how much I dislike the abandon of future patches of SH5. I still want to see another release of SH6. Keep them coming. Keep up the work. But if ubisoft clearly doesnt have enough manpower to release patches for their game, it would be good if you could hire competent programmers.

Ubisoft has enough man power, but they invest nothing in patches for games that do not sell well, such as SH5, RUSE or HAWX2 whether this is due to bad programming or the nature of the game itself. Ubisoft invests in the future only in top sellers like the Assassins Creed or Settlers series.
Of these Ubisoft games we will always see in the coming years new editions and spin-offs, the fan base of these series will be milked as long as it goes.

Well if that is so, there can be no doubt about Ubisoft's policy. If I can sum it up.
1. The quality of ubisoft games depends on the user fanbase.
2. Ubisoft has no quality insurance policy
Other game companies are conserned with the quality of the game and the respect of their company and will follow up on bad games even if it has a low userbase. Ubisoft has no such goals or desires.

DelphiUniverse... sadly, the matter of fact is that Ubisoft doesnt give a crap. Ubishaft is all about greed. As long as people are still buying their junk they will keep producing but they wont do patches to make it into a descent game. The funny thing is they rely on modders to make the game playable but yet modders dont get a penny for their work. This is bad business practice but Ubisoft seems to be getting away with it. It wouldnt be so bad if Ubishaft would at least acknowledge the modders and thank them but they cant even do that.
The best thing we can hope for is another software company comes out with a sub sim that actually cares about its customers.

Rick: I understand where you're coming from. I agree that in practice they practice "greed", but in reality this phenomenon can be analyzed differently. Ubisoft is a big company. They need to prioritize for the sake of their employees, for the sake of strong competition by other companies like Electronic Arts. They have an absolute need to compete. When they have to compete for survival they have to prioritize, when they have to prioritize there will be unsatisfied customers. The most dissatisfied customers will be those who buy games of low popularity.
So I partly disagree about the "greed" part. If it was a rather small software company I would agree with you, but a big software company like ubisoft HAVE to compete ruthlessly to survive. It just might be that they wanted so badly to finish the game, but couldnt because of the strong competition out there.
It is a sad fact that the bigger the company becomes, the more vital it becomes to survive and less dependant on single game titles they become.

Competition? I see none for sub sims. Ubisoft seems to have the monopoly on sub sims with their SH series. Perhaps if there was actually some competition from another software company on sub sims, Ubisoft would treat their customers better to keep them. The way I see this is that Ubisoft knows they have the monopoly, so they treat us like dirt.
Personally, if another company created a sub sim I would jump ship (no pun intended) in a heart beat.
I agree with many of the other points in your previous post DephiUniverse http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I didnt mean they were competing with other sub simulators, I meant that they put their resources into developing other games in other areas/genre that competes with other developers.
So they abandon less popular games like sh5 and puts more effort into games they have to compete more ruthlessly in.

DelphiUniverse, I knew what you were saying http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I was just playing devils advocate.
Sadly you are right about SH5 being less popular... but... Ubisoft put themselves in that situation. During the time of SH3 and 4, there was a strong sub sim fan base, but because SH5 turned out to be a disaster and Ubishaft is getting a bad name because of their lack of service and support, the sub sim community is no longer what it used to be.
I am pretty sure that if another company developed a sub sim and the word got out, they may be surprised at the interest and sales. With a fresh start from another company, I am pretty sure the sub sim community would grow and flourish. There are probably many old sub simmers just watching and waiting in the shadows for something to happen... whether it is Ubishaft finally getting their act together and patch SH5 so that its playable without mods or another company comes along and takes over where Ubishaft left off.
If another company developed a sub sim equal or better than SH4, I would gladly put down another $60-$100 to buy it.

I'd hate to see a different company do a sub simulator. I think this simulator is perfect as it is, the only problem is that they wont address bugs anymore. The game has an excellent potential, but thats about it, its full of bugs.
I would very much like this game to stay in european hands, because europeans know their facts and they will implement sub sims with accurate historic data.
Imagine for a minute that an american developer got their hands on a similar engine, we all know what would happen. The game would become americanised, simply because people in america like to buy american products, it WOULD have become americanised.
Look what happened to the u-boat movie u571, they put in tons of lies in favor of america, which they admitted later. Look at civilization 5 by sid meier, full of americanised lies to make it sell better in the u.s.
We should all be FU.... glad this game is developed in europe, we should be extremely glad for that.
The only problem is that they need to address bugs.
