Heros and Towns

I have a question about how heroes work.
I am wondering how I can keep a hero stationed in town?

Everytime I exit my town after I have sent a hero there, he shows up at the entrance to the town. If he is attacked, will the troops garrisoned in the town fight, or will it be only the troops in the hero's army?

If you open the town view with the hero in front you can move him up into the top row which will have him in the castle when you exit the town view and off of your hero's line up in the bottom right.

You can leave a hero in the castle for as long as you own it.

If you have ahero stationed in front of the castle and one inside, an attacker will have to fight both to capture the town
