Alright, now Blindnero, you have fixed many of my SP problems, but never had i encountered a problem to this extent with multiplayer.

Everytime I try to either join or create a server, the game crashes to desktop and says "InternalDirect3derror" , and then gives me a "mm.exe referenced memory error" to follow up. Now, my only fix so far is to "Restart Runtime" with my ATi Catalyst, but this only works 75% of the time and I shouldnt even have to go this far just to get it to work.

Specs:

ati x1950 pro 256 mb, 1 gb ddr400(not that great), 4096 mb pagefile, defragmented drive
^^(just to show ive followed other steps)

All my settings are set to recommended as well, and the Catalyst options are as default, I have followed every step I can but get NO luck at all in recovering this error...

BlindNero

InternalDirect3derror could be caused by not updated DirectX9.0c to the latest version?
Btw: did you overclock your card, or is it at stock speed?

Try this:
-close Steam.
remove the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\mm] key from Registry.
Launch Steam again > start MP.
Go to Options>Videosettings and check they are 'recommended' or try a bit lower.
The resolution must not be 800x600!!! Also not widescreen aspect ratio 16:10.

Nice to hear from you mate,

NVM, Found the Direct x9.0c update, will install now and see if this fixes it..

And no, I did not overclock my card, it is at stock speed.

the resolution is the same as my Desktop resolution; 1280 x 1024, and ill try to lower the settings.

Will try the Regedit function right now, thanks for reply

I copy from my thread:
=6=. Update your directX9.0c version to the latest, february 2007. Click Start > Run... type in:

click OK.
Navigate to the key
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\mm]
which you see in the picture below, and highlight it.
Delete the key (press "Del" key on your keyboard).

http://home.planet.nl/~dekk0819/downloads/Reg-Valve-Source-mm-remove.jpg
You may notice that the key is recreated automatically later, that's fine.

>>>> But did you read this new thread: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8821027804/m/9631010155? If you use ZoneAlarm, this might be the clue for you? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 05:16 PM
Well I didnt need the instructions so "user-friendly" but thanks hehe :P

Umm, I do not use Zonealarm, I use Agnitum Outpost Firewall, it works great, Of course tho, I added MM.Exe and Steam.exe to the exceptions and all that..

I just updated to new Dx 9.0c, and removed the key, will see what happens. Ill report back here soon, thanks alot for the help

BlindNero
04-14-2007, 05:32 PM
Yes but if you again get the same error, please try without firewall!

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 05:34 PM
Alright I went in depth into my firewall before launching, saw the "Past Blocked List" and MM.exe was in a few of the blocked lists, even tho its in the exceptions...

My solution was to set the Firewall to "allow most" , instead of "normal", and I tried my first server and it loaded just fine with no error, will report back if the error repeats even when the firewall is off... Thanks for the help .. One thing tho, When i create a server, noone can join, is there something I need to do to resolve this issue, cuz none of my friends can join the servers i create..

BAD NEWS, got the error again, will turn off the firewall now and see if it persists... argh..

BlindNero
04-14-2007, 05:45 PM
For help about creating a server i think you better start a new thread with that specifically in the title so somebody with experience on that comes around...
I remember with UT2004 i never managed untill i completely bypassed my router (hardware firewall), and learned from UT-support it doesn't like routers.

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 05:46 PM
Ok, the firewall was TURNED off, but the problem still occured... I really dont know what to do as of now, I even tried that Cl_timeout 500 thing with the CFG files...

Something is wrong.. I cant identify it though, will try to read around this forum to see if it can be resolved

BlindNero
04-14-2007, 05:48 PM
Do you use a router? Seen my previous post? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Also, your DX9.0c is updated to the feb2007 version now?

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 05:52 PM
Oh , sorry, didnt see your previous post, but no, I do not use a router, just a modem for my internet connection (DSL), directly into the jack.
And Yes, my DX 9.0c is updated to feb2007 version as of now, but the problem still persists... it occurs randomly, sometimes it wont happen, sometimes it will... It is very frustrating

BlindNero
04-14-2007, 05:57 PM
Direct3D errors have nothing to do with servers or internet at all, just the hardware and software concerning the graphics.

You never had that same problem in SPlayer?

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 06:00 PM
For a very limited time, because of your help, I resolved the issue in the singleplayer component of the game, but AS soon as the singleplayer worked, the multiplayer didn't , very annoying... Well, I dont know, is there anything I should be concerned about with the hardwarE? I play EVERY other game fine, even the Singleplayer, with high settings, but on this game, even the "Recommended" settings cause problems..

BlindNero

Your Valve>Steam>mm key in Registry is probably recreated automatically. Could you export then post it?

Well unfortunately, it did not recreate automatically.. Cant find that entry anywhere in the registry except for under "Might and Magic"

BlindNero
04-14-2007, 06:09 PM
Close Steam.
Reboot the PC.
Relaunch Steam.
Check Registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\mm]

But you should also find the same key at:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valve\Source\mm]
... and if you do, export that one. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you really don't have that key it can be created.

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 06:18 PM
So how bout if i find both, im gonna restart in a sec but If I find both just go with the "Current_User" one?

BlindNero
04-14-2007, 06:19 PM
They both carry exactly the same settings.
The one to work with is the first one: HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

So, we could edit your second one, then import to the first place. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 06:25 PM
More Bad news, the "Current_USER" one doesnt exist, and the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valve\Source\mm] doesn't exist either, infact, for the "LOCAL_MACHINE" one, there is not even a "Source" folder in "Valve" , just a "Steam" key...

BlindNero
04-14-2007, 06:39 PM
Did you activate the game through Steam at all?

Removing the first one (what you did) does not remove the second one. Besides that, it is the key for the SP version.

On the test PC i am looking atm, i also have it under Valve, under Source and under Steam.
The MultiPlayer game can also be located at:
1. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ubisoft\Source\./\Settings
2. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Apps\2100]

Do you have number 1. ?

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 06:48 PM

Sorry for the delay... i'm also busy Photoshopping atm..
Looking into your post now.

I need to know exactly:
where did you install Singleplayer game (the path)?
How did you install the Multiplayer game, was it downloaded 100% through Steam?
You can simply:
right-click on each shortcut > Properties > copy and paste the path from the "Target" box.

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 07:59 PM
"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 2130

- Multiplayer Shortcut ^^^^

"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Dark Messiah of Might and Magic\mm.exe" -novid +map_background none -heapsize 393216 +datacachesize 96

- Singleplayer shortcut, As you can see I modified it accordingly so that it ran better,

When I tried to add -novid and other commands to the Multiplayer Shortcut, it just made the game worse, resulting in more frequent errors and other errors that didnt even pertain to what we are discussing now, So I kept it on default.

The multiplayer game was downloaded through steam a long time ago, this error came about 1 month ago, and then I deleted the cache and downloaded it again, unfortunately, that didnt do anything as the problem still persists...

BlindNero
04-14-2007, 08:38 PM
OK, but you didn't tell me where your Steam MP game is installed, if you had given me the path it would talk a little easier.
Anyway, could you copy&paste binkw32.dll into your
?:\......\STEAM\SteamApps\*your account*\dark messiah might and magic multi-player\bin
folder. Or is it already there?

(find it on your DMessiah DVD: DMOMMGC\Disk1\Support\arch\bin\binkw32.dll, or download and unzip binkw32.zip (http://home.planet.nl/%7Edekk0819/downloads/binkw32.zip), it's the same file.) )

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 08:53 PM
Its already there....But I dont know what you're talking about when you say "Where did you install it" , I don't know exactly what you were asking me..

BlindNero
04-14-2007, 09:07 PM
Well, i wanted to have a more clear picture of both your installations SP and MP.

Ok the binkw32dll!

Now please do this:
In Registry, at [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\]

right-click on the key "Source" > New > Key.
Name the key:
mm
so you have
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\mm]

In Notepad select File > New.
Copy and paste the text below the line:

1. Open registry, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve.

One of its subkeys is:
Source

OK?

Right-click on Source > select New > Key.

The new key will be named "New key nr.1" and is highlighted.
Change its name to

mm

Close registry.

2. Open My Documents.
Right-click on an empty space, > New > textdocument.
It will be created and its name (New-Textdocument.txt) highlighted. Now type:
new_mm_key.reg
Windows message appears: "Change Name. By changing the extension the file may become useless. Continue?" Click Yes.

3. You now have an empty .reg file.

Please confirm so far, i'll wait. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

4. Right-click on this "new_mm_key.reg" file, > Open with... select Notepad.

5. In the opened empty Notepad file, paste the following block of text:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Now Blindnero, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif
Excuse my anger, but the thing worked, oddly enough, didn't really see any sense in how it did if it just gave me an error before with practically the same .reg file... Ahh anyways, you know how to work this stuff so im not gonna ask ne questions..

BlindNero
04-14-2007, 10:38 PM
Only trying to help accurately. Not assuming you're a ****** at all. I don't know what you can or not can. Just want to make sure we are doing the same thing.

So you have an empty registry key called
mm

Do this: right-click on it > Export...
to My Documents.
open it with Notepad.
paste the text.
Save.
Import it back into registry. This should work.

EDIT: oh you edited your post... OK so it worked finally? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Is the reg file imported and you now have a [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\mm\Setting s] key filled with your settings?

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 10:45 PM
Yes, I have that mm key in the registry with all the text/info applied... So that worked, is that enough to give the game a shot for a day?

BlindNero
04-14-2007, 10:52 PM
Well, excellent. Launch Steam and try the game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Alright thanks for the help, Ill report back in a day or two if It works without the error , hehe, or if the error persists, I will report back ASAP, LOL. Honestly though I have to try this game atleast 20 times online because the error occurs randomly so I want to get it out of hand

Oh that's fine! But in your initial post you said "everytime".

Originally posted by braheem_88:

What i changed in your reg settings is:
i added the line you were missing but should have after the game was updated with the patches (which through Steam happens automatically):
"mm_fxquality_level"=dword:00000001
and i disabled your vSync.

I hope this fixed it.

braheem_88
04-14-2007, 11:43 PM
So, should I set Vertical sync to off in the Videooptions?

BlindNero
04-15-2007, 12:30 AM
It already is, isn't it? Yes, it should be disabled. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

braheem_88
04-15-2007, 10:01 AM
Well Sadly, I just received the error again, in what i can remember it is "Internal Drive Error in IDirect3d :I Present"

I set the Cl_timeout to 999, but i cant think of anything else to rid of this frustrating error..

But about the Vertical sync, it is recommended to be "On", so i switched it to off...

Now, it happens more frequently, EVERY single time, and this isnt an exaggeration like last time, EVERY TIME I try to join or create a server online, I get that stupid error.... Its even worse than before now..

BlindNero
04-15-2007, 10:27 AM
Ok, then apparently the vsync is recommended in MultiPlayer.
In SP i have it off anyway, and it says it is recommended too.

Sadly, no replies yet in your other thread Help with Creating Server (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8821027804/m/2991010155). I suggest you add the word please and a questionmark in the title?

More exact please (to discriminate between creating server and joining server):
-have you successfully joined a server as a spectator or player?
-

braheem_88
04-15-2007, 10:36 AM
Alright, if that does anything, but whats the point if I CANT even make it for myself without this error starting up and crashing me to desktop EVERY time now..

BlindNero
04-15-2007, 10:37 AM
More exact please (to discriminate between creating server and joining server):
-have you successfully joined a server as a spectator or player?

What are your steps? Where do you live, USA or Europe?

I am in Europe. I can join a server and be a spectator. I haven't actively played Multiplayer yet.
On this other test-PC, I installed SP from DVD, outside Steam. That works.
I also installed and updated through Steam, that version works as well. Yes, i have the game installed twice and both versions run.
I downloaded Multiplayer version through Steam.
To launch it, i doubleclick the Steam-created "Dark Messiah Might and Magic Multiplayer" icon on desktop. I have no dxdlevel or any parameters applied to it.
I have a router (with hardware firewall), NO software firewall and Windows firewall is disabled.

On Main Menu, i click "Find servers" and immediately get a list of 60 servers, most are in Europe, 10 are "US Official #1" to # 20.
I exit Find Server.

No, I cant join anything... It gives me that error upon loading, near the end of my loading actually, same routine, every time... I got this video card to alleviate issues like this but I guess its just inevitable with this game... Somewhere I did something wrong but I honestly went too far to return now...

Come on, some setting you have is wrong that's all. Your Radeon is a very fine midrange card.

Please do the routine again we did on Page 2 of this thread.
Export your [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\mm] key to My Documents.
Open it with Notepad.
Select All, delete. Copy and paste the next text into it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\mm]

Alright I tried this, the game worked again after a restart, worked fine I guess, will come back if error persists...

About my Creating Server Thread, how do i change the thread name??? Plus, you might know this because here is my main issue when I create a server, It shows up in "LAN" tab of the servers, but not the Internet Tab, Meanwhile I did make sure that I choose "Internet" everytime when I create a game...

A solution for me and my clanmates might be to get hamachi (Since the game ALWAYS only shows up in LAN) because I have the best upload speed out of all of us and so If I create the server it will be best for us...

You might not be as proficient with these matters as you are with others, but what do you suggest?

You did something wrong. In your case, where you only find the option LAN, that is a result of your own settings for the server you created.
I can choose between LAN or Internet. I chose LAN, create.
<Random Map>
Type: Deathmatch.
Now i am on my own 1-PC Lan server as the only one, and it works (playing against no-body, but the MP game runs excellently).

1. Question: What map did you use?

2. Oh, and if you applied any parameter to the shortcut of the game, remove that!!!

3. I re-enabled Windows firewall, launched MP game. It runs (the LAN mode i tested above). But after quitting, on desktop i have the Windows Security message that "Windows Firewall is blocking some functions of this program. Options: keep blocking/lift blackade/ask again later".
So, lift blockade or make sure Windows Firewall is disabled.

Oh no, your misinterpreting, I can choose between both, but I CHOSE internet, but When i myself go to see whether the game is up in the servers, by clicking "Find ServerS", I can only see my server through the LAN tab..

I used Yard_test 01, and no parameters are in the shortcut to the MULTIPLAYER component of the game.

I disabled windows firewall, I use Agnitum outpost firewall pro, BUT even when i disable that it doesnt work, as in, my friends dont see my game in their list, at all... and after 10 minutes noone joins still... The MP Game I make runs excellently for me (obviously), but noone can see it, thats the only problem...

As long as you have no replies in your other thread... let's see how i can be of any help.
Could you give me your server name and password, i'll try to log in?

Sorry i've been away for so long... But I gotta get one thing sorted out and then we will continue this SERVER discussion on the other thread to give it some attention...

While i was away, my little brother told me that there was an InternalDirectDriver error Present in the error message he got while joining a multiplayer server... This happened 1/3 times for him, so I was just wondering about the Registry file you edited... does it have settings for Trilinear Anisotropic filtering??

Or better yet, could you outline all the video settings that should be set in accordance with the Registry file you edited for me???

Because by default, Bilinear is set to recommended, and correct me if im wrong but I think the registry file had a Trilinear setting present... So once again, if I could get all video settings that would match the settings of the registry file, then we might fix this problem from ever happening again...
