Hello Everyone,

I just finished building my 1st computer and I am super happy with it. I built it for gaming since my fathers computer couldn't really handle PF. However,today I decided to check out PF on my new comp and I was very pleased. But when I set the one setting to "Perfect" my graphics turn all whacky. I decided to check out the thunder at 12:00 and the sky turned black (like night time) but the clouds were fine and so were the planes. I also noticed that i could see the entire ship models (below the water line). I am running the latest Catalyst drivers (5.2). I will post my dxdiag later along with some screenshots and whatever else Hunter posted in his thread.

Hello Once Again,

Alright,I finally had the chance to take some screenshots showing my problem. I took these from the QMB builder. Time was set to "12:00 hours" and weather was set to "thunder". As you can see the sky is pitch black. The 1st image is me coming in for a landing. The 2nd & 3rd image are showing the carrier at two different angles. You can clearly see the ships model below the water line. This is with custom settings in-game with everything maxed & the one set on perfect. I hope this can be fixed. I appreciate any help given. Lets start with the basics.

What cpu have you installed? The dxdiag reads: Unknown CPU Typ, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0GHz.

Next, you have no chipset drivers installed. That is so not good. Here are the current chipset drivers with install instructions. Do them and repost an updated dxdiag with the cpu information. We'll go from there.

Install unified driver Version: 5.10
XP link: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.10

You MUST let Windows detect bits and reboot between uninstalling any older drivers and then installing newer ones. Not doing so will cause problems. It should go like this:

If on broadband/dsl, disconnect from the internet

1. Uninstall nForce drivers from add/remove programs in control panel.
2. Reboot.
3. Let Windows try to find, and fail, at all the nForce stuff. A must do step.
4. Reboot.
5. Install the new nForce drivers. Do not install the nForce IDE drivers. This should install Standard Dual PCI IDE Controller.
6. Reboot.
7. Install the graphics drivers all by themselves if required or desired.
8. Reboot.

Reconnect to the internet.

Hello Steve,

I have an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ "Barton" cpu which I overclocked to a 2.0GHz. Its installed on an Asus A7N8X-X motherboard. A few of my friends have this same board and it says the same thing about the cpu. I will download the unified driver version 5.10 and follow the instructions given. Lower sound hardware accelertion to Standard in the dxdaig tool.

go into BIOS and reset the 2500 to default settings, 166x11. reboot.
follow instructions for chipset install.
post the updated dxdiag.

Hello Steve,

Alrighty now. Downloaded the nForce chipset drivers. Disconnected from the internet. Installed the nForce chipset drivers and unchecked the box for the NVIDIA IDE drivers. Opened dxdiag and ran the tests. Saved all the information and now I'm posting the updated tests (will post above). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif =S=

Please don't edit or remove previous dxdiags. I cannot keep track of what was changed or why. Seeing the progression helps my feeble mind get a grasp on the situation. Having said that, lets start from scratch.

I see several Compaq Internet Keyboard listings in DirectInput Devices. Did you use a hard drive with an existing OS or did you format and install XP fresh?

Go to Creative and use their auto software update service. Its the only way I know that confirms if everything required has been installed. All hardware get firmware and critical updates along with drivers.

The mobo is still not reading the cpu correctly. Dxdiag reports Unknown CPU Type, instead of the correct AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+.

As for the internet keyboard,everything was setup from scratch. Nothing was on the hard drive until it was setup. In other words,it was factory fresh.

**Update** Not necassary to update. I have most recent software.
I have the latest drivers for my Sound Blaster Live 5.1 sound card. But it will check the auto software update service out. What do you mean about firmware & critical updates and drivers? Remember I am new to all this stuff.

I know the motherboard isn't reading what my cpu is. I am not sure why,but as I said before,some of my friends have the same motherboard as me and get the same thing. Not sure why that is. =S=

Lets not concern ourselves with our friends and their machines. For better or worse, you are wedded to yours, so lets have a go at getting the best out of it. (Only about two-thirds of the Barton 2500+s can clock to 200x11. Just a fact of life.)

Last questions: Is this a mobile Barton? Exactly what results are you aiming for?

I am just telling you that its not an uncommon thing. Before I bought the cpu I contected the company and asked if my cpu would be able to handle 200x11. I confirmed it by checking out the bios.

No it is not a "mobile" Barton. My good friend told me they were for laptop computers which my isn't. So I didn't buy a mobile one. As for what resaults I'm aiming for. Well just to overclock it to a 2.2GHz and be able to play PF & possibly BoB with good fps. Also to solve my graphics problems. Well, you're starting to confuse me. Either something is being lost in the translation or understanding.

Nows the time to retest PF and insure your install is stable. Once the o/c starts, its impossible to trouble shoot the sim without undoing the o/c. When satisfied with PFs performance, move on.

How am I confusing you?

When my cpu was set to 1.83GHz PF was stable and my system aswell. When I set the cpu to 2.0GHz PF was stable and my system aswell. My only problem with PF was the graphics errors when I had the one setting set at "perfect" (see shots on pg.1). Thats why I started this thread,to fix the graphics errors when the one setting is set on "perfect".
