http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gifI started a carrer in late 1943 and my first crew is made from veterans. So I take a look at my officers and they are all Lt Sr. with me starting as an Lt Jr. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif
It 'll be nice to take orders from me: "Excuse me Lt sir... I respectfully order you to give Ahead std... SIR!" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
Maybe they should run the boat and give me a WO or even an SO post. (at least i will hear those ships a lot sooner...)

This has always been an issue with me and starting mid-late war careers. I solved it by promoting myself to Oberleutnant or Kapitanleutnant.

I am thinking... since the war will be over soon, what the heck... lets promote myself to admiral. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif (Anyone knows if the game has a feature that puts you on a desk job after a certain rank?) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I think I'll make myself a colonel and lead a coup... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif or start a chicken business http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

I advise you to put a Luger under your pillow. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It might happen that you wake up one day and have your IWO standing above you making http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

"Time for a little modification in the chain of command.....sir..." http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

"Uh....Cant we just ....get along... ?" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Now, thats an option to add to the next SH3 Cmdr version. "Change your status from dead to surrendered or beaten to death by your crew".
...and won't be able to "return from retirement" after this. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Ooh, promoting ones-self. How do you do that?

Check the expansions 3.JG51_Molders is using. There you will find the answer http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I think that they're using "Silent Hunter Commander".

Just tell them that if they try to pull rank on you, they will be introduced, in turn, to Socko as your new XO!

Go to "My Documents", "SH3", "Data", "cfg", then "Careers". Find the Kapitan you are currently playing with. Double click on that folder. Depending on the number of patrols that you have done under this name, you'll see many files, but you will notice common names (Careers, Crew Careers...etc). Find the "Careers_*".cfg that has the highest number after "Careers". Before we do anything, make a backup, just in case. Open the file up with notepad or any word processing software. Scroll to the very bottom of the document. Now, begin to scroll slowly upwards until you see your Kapitan's name, under that you'll see "Players Rank" with a value. 10 is Leutnant Zur See, 11 is Oberleutnant Zur See, and 12 is Kapitanleutnant. Save the document, and, if you have SH3 Commander, open it up and you should see a change in rank. The highest I was able to get to was Korvettenkapitan or rank # 13.

LOL

Not surprisingly I got it wrong... And I am still the same rank http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I couldn't find what I was supposed to find. If I was even looking at the right thing...

I really am quite rubbish at techie stuff like this.

Basically what this does is it changes your rank in the most recent patrol that you completed. This should carry over onto the next patrol you do. Keep trying it though and it should work, just make sure you scroll to the very bottom and scroll slowly upwards (to get at the most recent patrol information). Editing any patrols before the most recent one won't have any effect. Also, if it helps, ignore all the other files (Log, Patrol, Crew Careers...) and focus solely on "Careers_*.cfg" with the highest number.
