Let me start by saying that I bought the game a few days ago, and nearly gave up on it after a few hours. I did a few patrol missions and couldn't hit anything with torpedoes! I relied on my deck gun to get me what few merchant kills I had. God forbid a destroyer spot me, I had no idea how to escape successfully.

Thankfully I came here, read up on some tips and downloaded a few mods (Trigger Maru+RoW http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif). After learning how to line up an attack, strike and get out undetected I was very pleased with the game. Knocking out merchant convoys is a ton of fun.

Then I became a little curious about how historically accurate the game was. May 1942 was coming around so I decided to make my way to the Coral Sea. After a day or so of unsuccessful patrols, I came across the massive task force. The Shokaku and Hiryu, escorted by a few heavy cruisers and several destroyers! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif Originally, I wanted to shadow them until they engaged the Lex/York but they were too fast to keep up with. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Luck was on my side that night though because I spotted them coming towards me at the perfect angle. Cruising silently, I came within 1000 feet of the Hiryu and let 2 torpedoes go. Then, hard starboard and let 3 loose towards the Shokaku. Switched to my aft torpedoes and fired a final 2 towards the Mogami behind me.

Explosions rocked the Hiryu, it threw on its lights signaling to the rest of the fleet, then quickly rolled over and sunk. Seeing this, the Shokaku started to evade, but it was too late. Two of the three torpedos impacted (darn 14's) and she listed for a while, then sank. The Mogami took both torpedoes right to the engine room and exploded fantastically, sinking shortly after.

All in all, that was without a doubt one of the most memorable moments of my gaming career, and I hope to have more like it.

I would like to thank Ubisoft for making such a great game. The community here for being so helpful to the newer players. Also the modders out there that are dedicated to making the game even better. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Velkom Herr Kapitan... oops!! wrong ocean http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Now try the same thing with 'absolute hard' settings. Makes one appreciate the difficulties of the day.
