I'm having problems with the sound in the game, as it goes all crackly at times, usually when someone fires a machine-gun or the alarm goes off in a mission. It's been mentioned before I'm sure.

Could anyone recommend a decent priced card that will be error free when I play this game?

I have used the Santa Cruz Turtle Beach in my last 3 machines. I think it sounds better then the Soundblaster Audigy 2, and you can get it from Newegg.com for like $35-40.

I have the Soundblaster Audigy 2 zs as well. It's a good card, comes with lots of games. But it costs almost $100, and I don't think it sounds as good as the Turtle Beach. Especially as far as music is concerned.

Audigy 2 zs. I love mine. People tend to downplay audio, but I enjoyed a huge difference over my onboard sound when I bought one. Plus, I get that little EAX 3.0 advantage in SvM http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

When I bought it I said to myself "Do I really wanna spend $70 on a sound card?" But the thing with sound cards is they age much less than any other component. You'll probably upgrade your video card and processor at least twice before you even consider a new sound card, and both of those components cost way more than a sound card.
