p4 3.0ghz ht
1gb ddr400
geforce 6800gt o/c'd to 400/1100

settings I use:
maxed all, 16x af, 1280x1024, \r_hdrrendering 7, no aa (not compatible with hdr)

Please don't reply to this if all you have to say is "turn your settings down."

What do you mean? What is your framerate with that setup?
If its 40+ then you have no bottleneck, if its 5 then turn your settings down. If its 5 and you want it to be higher, you need a get a 6800 ultra and OC that and then OC the P4 as well.
The next step is AMD FX55 and new SLI mobo with a second vid card.

TURN'M DOWN!!!!!!

The question is not very well presented Mr Pie. If you are asking why you get such low fps with those setting and what the bottleneck is then it is easy.
The 3ghz p4 is well capable of running farcry and using the absolute maximun graphics like you are is putting massive stress on the gpu.

If you want more fps with hdr in farcry then get another gt in sli and let us know what sort of fps boost it gives.

You want more fps then TURN THEM DOWN.

The weakest link between Farcry and the end user is the system. So I'd have to say the system. Unless of course the bottle neck is the beer in your hand http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

hell yeah, i'm cranky!

this guy is whining about his 6800gt and his maxed out settings.

wah wah wah wah. perhaps if his post had a question mark or even an intent of a question, i would be a bit happier with the post.

The original poster sets the tone for the thread. If he comes hat in hand and says "Any help appreciated" then he gets a warm response.
If he states a poorly worded pseudo-query ending with "Don't tell me what I do not want to hear" then he is dictating to the people he came to for help and can expect the heat to be turned up.

BTW, I did not think my post was flaming, just the facts. I have not seen a real flame war here for months.
Hazard and Pak's were respectful and right on with the tone of the poster and Marts gave him what he had to expect when he said "dont respond if..." Jbyrtus was on the cranky side, but like I said, the poster sets the mood.

Pie: you have a good system and are running a very demanding program at a level which is using all your resources. Dispite your wish not to be advised to the contrary you must dial back on the AF and rendering. There is no bottle neck, you are pushing too hard.

Heh Heh...

My remark wasnt aimed at you Coops and I would hope Marts was joking by blaming you...

I was prolly being too subtle with the irony...

I am in full agreement with your assesment, read my post again but stop at the first comma to avoid confusion http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yep..you know me well enough to realise just that and I'm sure fab does as well, not hard to see if someone's on the ball r not, otherwise I would never post **** like that.
-Afterthought-Didn't seem to me cuz was being offensive at all..hence the lol there.

I wasn't posting on the computer in question and I was planning on giving more info on framerates when I got home.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone(or everyone)

(note: after I got home I forgot, and now I'm not home any more)

These aren't accurate (they're from when I was messing around maxing settings so I could see what fps I got, but I've forgotting exactly what happened): probably 40+ in most places, but with water and fire and stuff like that (mp_monkeybay, in a boat by the dock, shooting rockets like crazy) probably goes down to lower 20s/upper 10s.

Never goes down to 5.

Thank you fabulouscoops. Go **** yourself jbyrtus. And no,pakmanis, I don't drink beer (under 21)

2x 6800gt and an fx55 sounds great, offering to buy it for me?
I'm kinda looking for the next cheap (maybe <$300) upgrade that would make the most difference to my system...

So your playing MP with everything maxed except HD (even at 7 it's pretty much there)!!!! I played with everything on very high except AA, AF and HDR and found it hard to deal with. Especially the fade to grainy black and white when getting shot. Still trying to find good settings http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.
-------------
The question I have would be, even if the system could handle it, what is the max possible FPS online? (short of having your own server)

Ya missed Cuz's post before he edited it... it was "with the flamethrower" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

HDR at 11 is just ugly...
7 is ample and well chosen.
The framerates I posted were in MP... I'm not sure if MP adds much overhead or not...

hey pie, until you can beat me in a pistol match, stfu lol. ask around here and you'll hear how good i am.

anyway, i only responded to your original post in the manner that you posted. you posted like an asshat, so i responded like one. "you get what give." i am not to waste my etiquette and proper mannerisms on a jerk who is complaining about a beautiful rig.

you want an opinion of a community, treat it nicely.

you are getting HORRIBLE FPS: i mean for the coin you put down for your rig, you should vomit at your FPS. you truly need to turn your settings down for better gameplay. I would recommend at LEAST 40+ FPS for nice MP play. many folks with your set up will not run any AA or AF or HDR in MP so that they may obtain high FPS. the person that comes to mind, my dear friend mad murdock 2k, had a VERY similar setup to yours: he averaged 100+ FPS.

my system which averages 60+ fps on most maps (minus DAM and Mango which are FPS *****s):

amd2800+
1024kingston
9800pro

no overclocking on either the processor nor the card. i have everything on "medium" with water on high: trilinear textures. the "auto detect" said that i could run high to very high with no AA or AF but i chose FPS over graphical niceties.

it is your choice: obviously, we cannot adjust your settings for you.

i don't want to flame because it is not worth my energy: you are new to FC and I've been here a while http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif...I will let you rant. however, it is not nice to say "**** you" esp. when you do not know who is on the other end.

oh well, take my advice or leave it. i am certain that many others will agree with me.

I think the point here is that when playing MP, you are not in it for the eye candy, it's all about the FPS and network connection. Play MP at below 30 FPS or so and you'll be at a distinct disadvantage. The best recommendation is to adjust your rig and game settings so you're playing above 40 FPS or so. The more the better. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And do look out for jbyrtus with a pistol, he speaks the truth.

Also beer and FC not mixing, are you mad?! Train the mouse to compensate... It only goes wrong when you throw Bacardi into the mix... lol

system spec:
amd 64 3200+
abit av8-4rd eye
abit 9600xt 256
1gb corsair twinx(2x512)ddr400

i run all my setting on low cept water and machine specs and I churn out around 80+fps in mp I dont need all the eye candy just need to see the person in front of me. I too can run setting on high but it gives me lagg in mp( from what i know of MP games u want more fps vs the Q of the images) this is IMO

I set everything to low except water and found a couple clan servers that kicked me??? After setting special effects to medium all was fine. Probably the lens flare thing....but why would anyone care if I see it or not??? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Pak
IceT posted a while back what the settings are...
After he (22ndSAS Sever) kicked me! lol

It is to do with the bluring of vision as you go through smoke, the shaking of your head with nade explosions and also i think they check for certain levels of draw distance and object details (Vegitation)....

I have had those settings on since and although I get a slight FPS drop during the monochrome bluring it plays fine otherwise, eve on my rig!!
