View Full Version : Mics giving away locations?

I love COD players and their huge egos and their insistence on verbally masturbating into my ear because they all seem to have mics and huge egos. Compensating, much?

But does anyone else think that use of mic should give away your loc like it does in many other multiplayer games? (I understand opposing teams don't hear the mic, but still!) Maybe something like making your name pop up over your head, or something. Or a little mic icon, I dunno.

I'm not biased. Honest!

Just a thought.

I put no only because its to easy for an Assassin to find thier target as it is and you can see youre pursuer coming from miles away. Now if people played more stealth and things were more even in terms of killing (not a whine) i think it would be a cool idea but not needed in the current game mechanics.

No.

The game focuses on hiding, and team modes focus on stealth AND coordination - making both at once impossible is just silly.

You still give your proximity to target and pursuer away when using a mic, I think that's all we need. It discourages use of mics when they're not practical, and encourages that use when they are.

Mics let you know which persona is after you making spotting pursuers even easier.

Fair enough. I actually was thinking about it on the defensive side. And I agree that it's easy enough, but sometimes it's fun to make the annoying players get their asses handed to them even more soundly for humiliation purposes. Being at 50 with no leveling necessary for me, I tend to care less about points and more about survival and humiliation :P

Standard set up: Waiting in a Wanted lobby, brat randomly mouthing off into his mic, clearly feeling big and important because we all get to listen to his banal drivel and note him down as a moron whose parents may have better served the planet by aborting.

Then it got fun.

I killed my first target (the executioner) and hear this kid scream through the mic. Then he pops as my target again, I kill him (he was a very obvious easy person to stalk), he screams again, then once again he is my target and after I kill him again he screams that he is ''only being killed by the harlequin (me) and why is the harlequin always targeting him''. Then best of all he then says so we can all hear him ''great now the harlequin is my target I'm gonna get him'', so I now clearly know who is stalking me and when I see him approach I get a nice easy stun. His screams after the stun gave me much pleasure and I'm a nice normal person in reality.

This is why, if I must, will create an xbox live party and sit in silence by myself while I kill.

Favourite is when a guy like this finally manages to kill you (chase aerial) and rants about "Hah! got you that time! See, I'm so awesome!" - My post-game message - Title: Awesome! Content: You got 100 points in return for the 2000 I got from you. That's sweet, meaningful vengeance right there. Congratulations on your 15 kills.

It was a 15 kill, 2000 point player in 8th place.

This is hilarious!

I have been in the habit of Muting the people with mics because I have kids and hearing the strem of profanities isn't something that a good Father endorses, but having got a new headphone/mic set in the house over Christmas I think I will leave it turned on and see how it goes.

I have not been in a team based game where I was able to participate in the chat, so I cannot say that it has ever helped me, but I am going to try that too. I did not know if a team could hear the other team's chat, or not. I look forward to trying that as I think it will make for a completely different experience.

I played last night with the Chat turned on and was entertained by both the "What?! No!!" and the "Yeah, got him!" of my prey and hunters.

I guess I don't think there is anything wrong with the Chat feature, just how some people use it. I don't think it's bad enough to be punished in the game.

If you play on the 360 and play manhunt then add me. I'll show you how communications can change the game entirely. You may even start getting hate mail like me and some of my friends from teams we demolish.

My thoughts exactly. Unlike Manhunt or Alliance, where they're extremely useful to coordinate with your partners, some players don't seem to understand, or care, that using mics in Wanted can actually hurt them.

Case in point: I was playing yesterday, and started to hear the faint whispers letting me know that my pursuer was nearby. Next thing I hear is a heavy "mouth breather" on their mic, and know immediately that they're in very close proximity to me. Wasn't hard to figure out who he was. He sauntered up, expecting an easy kill, only to get smoked and punched in the face.

When playing wanted, if someone has a mic, you can here them when you are close to them... so it kind of already gives them away...

Thanks man, I play on a PS3 though. I appreciate the offer and if I played on the XBox I would take you up on it.

Mics do give away location. When the player is close, you can hear them if they're noisy.

I had some clown in a match whose volume was cranked up and i could hear it through the mic (how close do people like that sit to the tv??)

To make a long story short, any time I focused the gun on him, I heard the lock on audio cue through my headset coming from his TV. He was really struggling with how easily I kept picking him out of a group.

It's not really necessary. In Wanted, I was chasing my target, and he knew I was there not only because of the whispers but also because he could hear the ambient noise my mic kept picking up. So it can be a disadvantage, if loud enough, to the hunter.

In team games you can't hear the opposite team using mics, so its ok if you use your mic for coordination.

In Wanted, if you are using your mic when you are chasing someone you deserve have your position given away. You are an assassin, you shouldn't be talking until you kill your target.

To me, hearing someone talk is like listening to the whispers, except I can hear audible words.

Elatreus

They definitely give away your location.

I was playing a match today, and only one person was using a mic, and it was so easy to know he was coming.

He even did a running commentary all through the match. One time he was my pursuer and I saw him coming up behind me (I was the priest) he said "right, there's the priest, I'll just go kill him" he goes in for the kill, I drop a smoke bomb just before he reaches me and stun him, and he's like "wtf!!!! damn!!!"

It was so funny. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I <3 playing on ManHunt with a team that has mic. It enhances my trolling experience lol. What do I mean you say?

My Profile setup ( for when I'm trolling ) is : Disguise and Strong Morph. Playing with guys who use mics they generally like sticking together in a morphed group of about 6 (them include) to rake in bulk points. What I like doing is when I see a few of my pursuers walking around or just standing on roof tops trying to guess which is which, is to disguise then quickly strong morph the crowd into whatever I'm disguised as leaving my team completely naked and screaming their heads of at me as they get air assassinated seconds later.

Oh the joy.

I only enjoy this when they've been stealing my poison kills, or doing other stupid things to screw me over in previous rounds.

But you're right, it is fun.

just try not to do it to people who aren't complete *#&$s. (replace censorship with your choice of insult)

I would never betray my team like that (not that I play co-op modes), but I do like to quickly run at an obviously morphed group in Wanted to see if they'll drop a Smoke Bomb or Mute. I love when they rush over to stun me, only to find that I'm not their pursuer and they just wasted their defense. I don't feel bad, even when their real pursuer comes up and kills them, because we're all in a competition against each other.

So you give their pursuer a 400+ point kill and don't feel bad that you could have left them to get nothing and the hidden player to get a 200 point stun instead?

Which loses you less standing in the scoreboard?

(Correct answer: depends how high on the scoreboard the person you panicked and their pursuer are - if you made the guy just ahead of you in 1st, or just behind you when you're 1st, miss a stun, then I say well played)

najzere
01-17-2011, 09:43 PM
Hah, good point! I don't keep track of the scoreboard during the session so I have no idea.

I'm level 50 already, so it's more about relieving some of the frustration of trying to get Extreme Variety with a little laugh. If you ask me which is better, rushing the morphed crowd or coming in first, I'd say the former is priceless. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Generally speaking though, if someone is blending and waiting to stun their pursuer, they're probably a better player and so it's still worth it. :P

Good attitude.

Focus on fun, not victory.

I approve. (mainly because it sounds like my strategy - I play for fun and merely enjoy winning, not focus on it)
