Possible '24' Spoilers!
oh, c'mon! I'm absolutely psyched about this game but...
Sam went dark, because people (US Govt/Police/FBI) were looking for him
Jack Bauer went dark, because people (Chinese Govt) were looking for him.
Sam Fisher got a beard.
Jack Bauer grew a beard between Seasons 1-2 and 5-6
Sam now carries one of them "messenger bags". Jack Bauer carries a "messenger bag" in seasons 4-5
Sam Fisher kills a lot of terrorists.
Jack Bauer..... you got it. Kills a lot of terrorists

Sam went as a NOC, and only lower factions of the law enforcement are looking for Fisher. The NSA sent him away from the U.S., so he could stay hidden. (At least that's what I think. Very little information right now.)
Jack Bauer went dark, because people (Chinese Govt) were looking for him.
Actually, Jack Bauer went dark because, after Season 4, the government feared he would like secrets to the Chinese and wanted him dead.
Sam Fisher got a beard.

They both grew a beard, so what?
Sam now carries one of them "messenger bags". Jack Bauer carries a "messenger bag" in seasons 4-5
You need something to carry your stuff in, and again, does it really matter?
Sam Fisher kills a lot of terrorists.
Jack Bauer..... you got it. Kills a lot of terrorists
Well this time Sam is a wanted fugitive, and probably won't be killing any terrorists.

Jack Bauer has inspired the development of R6 Vegas, which is from the same Montreal studio by the way.
When you cater to the mass market, you simply leave behind what made the franchise unique, dumb down the gameplay, and jump on whatever ''flavor of the month'' bandwagon that might help to sell the game.
For a publisher like UBI, ''24'' is the flavor of the month, so they try to give that ''24'' taste to their current games, it's that simple.

"Dumb down", you're not very experienced with tom clancy titles are you?
Compared to GR1 and the original R6, every title that ubi has released apart from silent hunter have been dumb as a brick, SCC will most likely demand more of you than SC1 for instance.
In the earlier games there were one method and one solution to every problem, the dark patches were carefully positioned so you would stand a chance of winning, and sometimes the game was even over just because you sneaked along to slow or fast, very set path, SCC seems way more open, and fights doesn't mean game over, just take them down quickly and get away and you'll be able to hide in the crowd again, or behind a corner.

Ok simulacra, I want to see a 1 kill walkthrough of SC1 within 5 days, made by YOU. That's koing a total amound of around 15-18 people to get codes for doors and that's it. No alarms.
I challenge you.

Hmm, he might have gotten inspiration from SC along the way, but the first season of 24 aired in 2001, SC1 was released late 2002.

Like i said earlier... UBi couldn't get hold of the 24 license.... so we get to put up with the shameless plug

In that case I wanna see YOU finish a mission from "my" side of the pond, how about a recon-patrol mission in VBS1, you're being landed 15k from your target and will have to hike the rest of the way in realtime before getting there and do nothing but watch the enemy, or how about a SEAD mission in Falcon 4.0 RV against 2 SA-10 sam-sites, those will blow you out of the sky before you even hear the radar warning receiver go off, if you're lucky you might see the white streak of the missile coming at you.

Getting afraid? You suddenly change the subject. If you say SC1 is easy the ultimate stealth way, PROVE it.
I dont care about any of the stuff you 'challenge' me, because I dont have an opinion to defend about that.

and you do realize I'm just kiddin' around here? just pointing out the similarities that struck me in two seconds after seeing the first few screens

I have nothing to be afraid of, I have no need to prove anything, why does everything have to be resolved with testosterone filled challenges?, like we were some cavemen battling it out over a piece of meat.
I never said it was easy, I'm saying that SCC will demand more of you TACTICALLY, there wasn't much tactics in the first games since you never had that many options, there was usually just one way in, and the enemies wasn't all that smart, it's easy to make a game technically difficult, the choices you could make was WHEN to strike/sneak, CT brought some more ways in and made the game somewhat more tactical.
I prefer games that are as difficult as the enviroment they're trying to simulate, I've been wanting to have more creative ways of finishing the missions in the first 3 games a number of times...

SC1 had a lot of different ways to get through many of the obstacles. But many people never went past the obvious routes.
Even in the police station level there are several different ways to get through "choke" points. In full stealth mode no less.
And the game's difficulty did change a good bit between "Normal" and "Expert" causing you to have to change the way you approached obstacles. What worked in Normal might just get you killed in Expert mode.
Don't dismiss the tactics needed to play SC1 well. I've found it to be much more tactically challenging than most games.
BTW, I _love_ Falcon 4. I've been playing with flight simulators since Jet back in 1985 (or was it 1986) and Spectrum Holobyte's first "Falcon". RIP Spectrum Holobyte. Whatever happened to Gilman Louie, anyway? I have all four Falcon games (Falcon, Falcon AT, Falcon 3.0, Falcon 4) plus Mig-29, OFT and Hornet.
I'm also a licensed pilot (fixed wing, twin engine, instrument). I love flying airplanes.

Someone said something about a "walkthrough" for SC1... I didnt even know there were people who needed any... but after a little search, there even seems to be one for the training... how low can you go...
about the games 1-3 being to linear... try to set goals... full game no kills (except for objectives you can't reach...) no alarms... stealthy alternate routes... from CT on: no kills, alarms or knockouts... or get an 100% score for all missions...
finally, the Jack B. issue: Fisher uses high-tech gadgets... 007 uses high tech gadgets... that doesn't mean Sam is by any way 007... Sam has a higher developed personality than most movie/game chars... and as 007s sence of humour decreases during different episodes, while Sam is getting... well, you got the point...
What I'm trying to say: having mutual points doesn't mean being the same...

I don't know if people need a walkthrough for SC1. I do recommend anyone that hasn't already seen it, to take a look at The Message's one-kill walkthrough (can be downloaded from several sites). His video made me wanna replay the game for the umpteenth time, real inspiring stuff when you see the incredible skills that guy's got.

Just one note about The Message's (Otsuge) videos. He is playing on the XBox. Compared to the PC, the XBox NPCs are blind and deaf. You cannot play the game the same way he does with regard to the NPCs. They WILL detect you if you get that close moving that fast. (of if you just get that close)
Still, his videos are fun to watch. I took some different routes than he did. Partly because some of his routes just will not work on the PC. And partly because I found a different way that I thought was more fun (or I just found a different way before seeing his videos).
I have had great fun going back and playing SC1, 2 and 3 again since DA turned out to be such a pile. Full stealth is a fun way to play, too.

I've only played SC on the xbox, so I can't compare it to the PC-version. I therefore assume you're probably right regarding NPCs reacting a bit differently Roger.
I do, however, remember reading a lot of posts from people commenting on The Message's walkthrough saying that he must have been cheating somehow because nobody else could do things exactly the way he did them. Having tried a few of his "stunts" myself I found that with enough practice and extreme precision I was able to copy some of what he did. If you read his written walkthrough as well, you'll see he's got playing SC full stealth down to a science. The guy is just incredible, both innovative and elegant in the way he's playing.
And yeah, playing full stealth is loads of fun!

He's got a point.
And seriously, everyone's been copying James Bond ever since 1962 ended. Who the **** cares? As long as the game rocks...
And Sam Fisher was originally envisioned to have a beard.

I got it I believe from his website, themsg.com. It doesn't seem to be working at the moment though. You can find it by doing some searching on the web. The guy's name is Austin Johnson, aka The Message. I noticed the video being downloadable on several other sites, have forgotten the names now.
It's well worth the trouble to find this walkthrough and the time it takes to download (the whole thing runs about 2 hours 20 minutes). The Message is an unbelievable player. He basically never uses any of the weaponry or the gadgets available and he goes to great lenghts to ensure no one dies or is knocked out when it isn't absolutely necessary. For instance, you'll probably enjoy what he does with Grinko's driver - the one taking a leak in the parking garage in the Georgian Defence Ministry...
