View Full Version : When did you decide to buy Haze?

So when did you decide to buy it (if you did lol) and what made you decide?

For me it was the first time I heard about the new next-gen game that is FRD making. My first FRD game was TS2 and it was also the last one until Haze http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa265/rasomaso/icon_redface.gif , cause when TS3 and SS were released I didn't have much money and was planning to buy something else and when the price dropped I was again planning to buy something else, so when the Haze was shown at E3 2006, I thought it's a time to get another FRD title.

I'm in the same boat. As soon as I heard that that FRD was developing something for PS3 I was on board. It could've been a game of watching paint dry and I'd be stoked. My first FRD games were under Rare: Perfect Dark and Conker's Bad Fur Day. I missed out on the Goldeneye hype but Perfect Dark is far superior anyway. Only game I had on PS2 was TSFP and I played that one to death.

lol, I'm not sure Conker's Bad Fur Day really qualifies as an FRD game, or even close!

I'm the same though - I've been a fan of TS since day one, and although I wouldn't say I would automatically buy any FRD game they happen to make, I was down for Haze early.

Everbody chalks up Goldeneye and Perfect Dark to FRD even though it was Rareware at the time. It's just as well to lump Conker's Bad Fur day in there because it was an equally awesome game. Judging by what FRD has done compared to Rare in recent years it seems like they got all the talent and Microsoft got the sh*t end of the stick. Sure, MS got the rights to produce the sequels, but no-one talented enough to pull them off. Perfect Dark Zero? Pffft. Conker Live and Reloaded? what a joke. They re-released the original, which should have been a surefire hit, and managed to make it terrible. Microsoft paid for the name and pedigree of Rareware but I don't think they've gotten any return on that investment.

Agreed, but at least the founders of FRD worked pretty extensively on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark - I don't think any of them went anywhere near Conker...

Yeah, I was never sure of that myself and didn't know where to research it. I've always wanted to get some information on that directly from FRD. Maybe Neko can shead some light on the in the future if he is at liberty to discuss such things.

I've played GoldenEye, Perfect Dark en TS2 to death, all on Nintendo's consoles. Yes, I was a Nintendo fanboy, but that has changed a bit now since I've got a PS3. At the time I was planning to buy one, I already knew I had to buy Haze, so that's for about a year now, I think.

Yeah my first FRD game was Goldeneye, and I can't even begin to relate how many hours of my life were spent cracking out on the multiplayer. Long live Proximity Mines! But yeah, as soon as I was aware of the connection between Haze and Goldeneye, I was sold.

Free Radicals' previous history is documented at www.frd.co.uk, (http://www.frd.co.uk,) Corporate>Founders.

I was just searching their site when you posted that. That tab is easy to miss. I figured there's be uselss gibberish under corporate. Like pie charts.

thanks for the link

*EDIT*
After reading those bios it makes me wonder what happened to the people who actually were responsible for CBFD. Because there is not a single trace of that brilliance in subsequent games. Where'd they go? What games, if any, have they worked on that I might know about?

Perhaps they left Rare and are working in other teams - not everyone who leaves developers goes on to set up their own company, although sometimes it does seem like that.

I first heard about Haze and wasn't too interested, I said "meh, another shooter." I put it on my list of good games for Ps3 because at the time it was a Ps3 timed exclusive. I eventually came across an article stating that Haze was now fully Ps3 exclusive. Then I decided to go check out the game in further detail. The story tells itself from there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The time I heard that its PS3 exclusive timed or otherwise.
Still I have a feeling that it might be on the lines of Far cryish of which I am not a big fan but the game looks cool and will get it anyways.
Fingers crossedhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I decided to preorder back in June, I played the hell out of Goldeneye with my friends, and figured Haze would retain some, if not all, of that which sucked me into Goldeneye. I can't wait.

I heard of Haze some weeks ago.
I read some articles, saw some screenshots,
and I just fell in love with it! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

When I saw the preview at E3 '06 I was excited. The preview video had a cool edge to it. It was very well directed. I was like "whoa... cool"

As some of you know, I went to the Haze booth and saw the demo. At the time I was very underwhelmed. But over the next year they pumped up the graphics and punched up the story and actually did something with the Nectar.

Really they had me at Mantel...

Haha, yeah, another clever name for an Umbrella Corporation. I dug that right away too.

last year, I went through a nostalgic patch, and I wanted to figure out what happened after Goldeneye (I was little when that was released)

After finding out about the whole back story I got Timesplitters 1/2, and started a search for Timesplitters 3 (which was nearly impossible to find, in the end I had to import it from the UK, but it's a fantastic game)

After I got a PS3 I found out about Haze, the people who made Timesplitters were doing it, and that cemented it on my shopping list (the storyline seems excellent)

To be honest I'm waiting for Timesplitters 4 more eagerly (I really hope this comes out on PS3, I don't care about it being exclusive as long as it is definitely coming to PS3), but Haze should tide me over well especially if it has the game modes (especially Virus, but I hold little hope) and 4 player (split screen, although I would like to find out if you can have 4 player co-op on the same console) support that helped make Timesplitters great

It's not possible to have 4 player co-op on the same console. Max is two, and with four you'll need another PS3, via lan or the internet. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yeah, kind of. But with 4 player splitscreen on one PS3, it'd get all laggy. It's better this way. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Pretty much as soon as I saw it was made by FRD. Plus the story and stuff got me hooked; I'd get this game even if it wasn't made by FRD.
