Hi all,
Just curious if there are any of you working on any new campaigns. I'm about 12 missions into building a Stuka campaign with missions for BoB, North Africa allmost completed and then to Eastern front.
It seems that theres not as much campaign building for FB by the community. Is it because of the dynamic campaigns available?

I would almost guarantee its the lack of tools and the difficulty of using the FB mission editor.

Because of the very small number of AI aircraft FB can handle at one time, I am being strained to come up with ideas. I don't "time" opposing flights to meet for player satisfaction, unless I wish to model some sort of ground control intercept--kinda like Flying Tigers used in China. But I depend on enough aircraft orbiting in defense of a small area so they attack any incoming enemy.

Also, I am trying to develop a whole day sunrise-to-sunset "mission" using the online 2 summer/winter maps, with limited fuel/ammo (otherwise Oleg strangles a kitten). The hardest part is that I am going to need a stand alone program to read the event file and calculate ground victories or overuns of airfields. FB is *not* designed for anything much more than one small plane-plane dogfight. Sad, because dogfights have nothing to do with air warfare.

I'm working on a 100 mission Soviet campaign. I'm at mission 85. It is a non historical campaign mainly so you can fly all of the available Soviet and lend lease planes. Since it is not historically based I guess I will have trouble getting some IL2/FB site to accept it. Most sites want only 100% historically correct missions and campaigns.

What is your definition of a small number of AI craft Lexx ?I have done a few with as many as 31 AI bombers + 1 player controlled. But then maybe that's why my sim clocks run at 1/4 speed /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I have been creating missions, all single player, involved with the German conquest of Crimea. Like Air Hog it's all non historical. I use some planes and equipment that didn't exist at the time, but it's stuff I want to see in action.

I suppose they could be tied together at some point into a campaign as they are progressive and in most cases consist of multiple missions each day. It probably wouldn't fly as a campaign for most as in some missions the player is a bomber pilot, He111, and in others a fighter pilot.

I particularly like maritime missions but I had to dumb them way down due to the "flak" problems. I typically have a sub take out the nasty ships with guns then go for the unarmed cargo ships. Hopefully the mythical "patch" will allow me to go back and make some of those more interesting. I am doing these for my own entertainment and a the current time am not inclined to share until I see what the "patch" does for things in general.

I am currently working on a Luftwaffe campaign. For the sake of variety and innovation I have decided to set the campaign in an alternative history. The single alternative premise is that the Wehrmacht were not defeated at the battle of Stalingrad and managed to hold the city against the Soviet counterattack and encirclement operation. This may be far-fetched but is not beyond the realms of possibility if they had adequately focused resources on that sector, naturally that will leave other areas of the front exposed...

The campaign begins in April 1943 with a German push through the Kuban towards the Caucasus. From there I have a few plot twists planned which hopefully will remain within the realms of possibility so that the campaign stays believable. But also the twists should allow the player to fly most German fighter aircraft produced from 1943 to 1945. More importantly the alternative history storyline will allow the player to fly some aircraft on maps which, following a true historical setting, they would not have been present at.

Am currently using the Online map with the four mountains as a substitute for the Caucasus mountains. This map does have place names on, does anybody know if this is a real place and, if so, where it is?

Not sure that I can stretch the limits of historical believability so that the Germans actually win the war but you never know...

Any views on this?

The campaign is called "Black Cross Rising" and should be ready for upload in the near future. Needless to say I already have "Red Star Rising" in the pipeline.

Don't anybody reply to that last post about the mountains map and tell me I'm a muppet cos I know I am. The names are a joke, right?

If you look in the game credits you'll find a lot of the names that appear on that map!

I know. And who ever heard of a Russian town called "Bad Day"?

i'm working on a P40 campaign for Tunisia / Sicily / Italy 1943
( crimea map )
done 5 missions of about 20-30 planned missions , flying mainly with the checkertails until they changed to the P47 (might put a few p47 missions in at the end as well)

is the reason for so few campaigns because we would all like to do our own dynamic campaigns not the same old fixed ones ?

is the IL2 centre working on this ?

Flak, I have done furballs with 80 AI aircraft (and me) but with severe choppiness. No grafix card will ever help this, its the CPU doing the AI, although doing it over ocean or off map where there are no terrain does help.

Lapse, are you aware of the cool mountains in the south~east corner of Kuban map? And I mean the very bottom right corner, inland and *south* of Tuapse, not north. These are my fave mountains because you can find places for AI aircraft to take off on flat valley floors. And they take off in formation. Also, I can get them to take off on some rather difficult to find flat spaces on top of the mountains. You can do it yourself too. Flying off a high mountain is stunning. I found this out by exploring the south~east area in a P11c, its very easy to land on the tiny mountain top flat spots. But then it does flip over if you get on too steep a slope.

Set TextQual=0 in "conf" file for best frame~rate...under [DirectX] or [OpenGL]. To minimize all those trees, set all the Landxxxx settings to zero except Landscape Shading (or Lighting forgot) to get the shiny sun and instrument panel reflections.

WARNING:: several aircraft types will not take off except on official FB airfield, these are...

I~153
I~16
Ju~87
He~111
Me~262
He~162
G~50
Me~323
and possibly some other non~combat types I didn't check them all.

Honestly, the mountains on the Online Summer 4 (OLS4) map with the big three mountains are a little too big and way too much distant from each other. Better than that, you got some amazing ground attack possibilites in the south~east Kuban mountains with the roads winding up to the top of the mountains and back down into the valley and back up to the top of the next mountain and back down into the next valley do I really need to do a run~on sentance?

Plus that town in the OLS4 map, "Olegovo," kinda ruins the immersion. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
