View Full Version : Alright you Limey Bastiches Get Out of My House!!!!

I'm ****ed, angry and have had enough!!!! My home, hearth and family have been infecticated by you bums from across the pond and I'm sick of it!!!!! I had a nice quiet existence, I watched some shows on US Television, HBO offerings, Mad Men, Lost etc... But most of the time I spent flying or fighting or whatever. Then things started to change... slowly and subtlely like a foot fungus...
The first crack in our armour came in the form of English Premier League Football. Why should I give a fig about West Brom beating Arsenal for the first time since heavens knows when? Yet there I was watching my son griping during 5 minutes of Stoppage Time. Stoppage TIME???? Why do I even know this stuff?????
Once the door was opened it came in like a flood, EUEFA Cup, Champions League... etc... Sports pheh, I can kinda (kinda) stommach that. But then came "regular shows" like the new and improved "Doctor Who". Next comes this "chef" who's only talent seems to be the ability to drop "F" Bombs faster and harder than a drunken Drill Sergeant. I was starting to worry but at least the guy seemd manly.
Next in was "Top Gear" I started to protest about this one but since they either drive the feck or totally destroy automobiles on a weekly basis, I kinda like this one. I'd kinda reached a truce with you people until last week when I found my son laughing hysterically to some twit named Graham Norton!!! I watched a show or two and realized that that was IT! No more!! I'm blocking BBCA for the duration. GIVE ME BACK MY FAMILY!!!!

Gordon Ramsay is manly as ****. He is the ba5tard love child of John Wayne and Jack Palance, wet nursed by Marco Pierre White.
I enjoy watching his TV shows, I greatly admire his drive and enthusiasm. He reminds me very much of the guy I worked for as a young man. He was a total nutcase too, but an admirable nutcase, if you know what I mean.
Oh, bit of sporting trivia to impress your boy with: Ramsay played for Glasgow Rangers as a youth. He didn't quite cut the mustard so he became a millionaire chef.

Worf, I live 'over there' in Steeler Country, a much nicer area than it has by reputation BTW.
Got a big Dr. Who collection myself and the new ones tend to be very good. Loved the killer statues even before they were killer in Blink, what an amazing plot! But then British theater tradition is very strong.
And maybe you get the documentaries as well? Couple of good ones on the BoB this year alone, got to learn that Dowding believed he was the reincarnation of a 13th century Mongol and believed in fairies too, LOL! Probably half my aviation and war videos are British and I have a large collection of that material.
You get the old programs as well?

LOL ... between the Dr Who "statue episode" and the one in the planetary library a few years back where shadows came out of the dark when you were not looking I detect a theme.
Whilst the accepted Copenhagen interpretation of Quantum says "things only happen when observed" ... Dr Who adds "unless they are bad things, in which case they happen when your not looking".

Don't tell Raaaid...
Back on topic, it works both ways. I often feel drawn to watch the various versions of CSI, even though the science is bogus, the plot repetitive, the acting less than enthusiastic, and the ultimate victory of good over evil at the end so predictable you could swap the last few minutes of most episodes without anyone noticing the difference. Why do I do this? Is there some subliminal message implanted in the soundtrack? Perhaps we need to ask Raaaid about this after all...

Yeah the pro "war on terror" and pro-Israel (right down to the hot sexy Israeli ex-Mossad girl) bias is also a bit blatant and over the top. But the show is good entertainment nonetheless.

ah true ... I watch so little television I get confused.
I am currently re-watching the 1990's "WWII re-enacted in space" soap scifi show Babylon 5 on DVD when I have spare time rather than bothering with live to air TV.

Try the ultimate in British humour: Bottom
Its about two total losers, Richie and Eddie who share a flat in London. A sort of psycotic, ultra-violent "Odd couple" meets "Itchy and Scratchy".
Its juvenile, idiotic, violent, toilet humour......and utterly brilliant!

Bottom had its moments and was hilariously funny when I was 13-14, less so now. Rick Mayall was much better in 'The New Statesman' as 'Alan Beresford B'Stard', the completely amoral, inhumane and heartless Machiavellian Thatcherite Tory Scumbag.
Nothing much really changes. There will street parties and much jubilation when Thatcher dies in my neck of the woods. I'm hoping that grave diggers exhume her corpse and impale her on a stake, so we can build a big bonfire and everyone can dance around it, enjoying the festivities. Oh, Happy day! Won't be long for the odious old bat now, Allelujah. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
There'll have to be a 24 hour armed guard to stop people queuing to p*ss on her grave, lol.
Back OT, "The Comic Strip Presents" was very good too. 'The Strike' with Al Pacino being cast as Arthur Scargill in the 84' miners strike was frikkin hilarious, a great satire of OTT Hollywood bombast, blatant disregard for any semblance of historical accuracy, and saccharine, cringe inducing sentimentality.

As you've turned this into a political thread I shall respond. Thatcher lost power in 1992. Why are you living in the past?
I and millions of Brits will celebrate the death of Gordon Brown who has brought this country to it's knees. And almost it's ankles.
Sorry Worf http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif Great thread and I will contribute shortly.

Bottom is hilarious, as is the Young Ones. The New Statesman was pretty great in the 1st season, less so in the later ones. Red Dwarf is better than any of them though.
And I don't think people will really remember Gordon Brown much 20 years from now tbqh.

Yeah, Red Dwarf is an all-time classic. Of more recent stuff, I'd put The IT Crowd in amongst the best.

Gordon who?
I think he was the bassist from 'sigue sigue Sputnik'....name rings a bell. Could be wrong.
'Black books' is good if you get the chance to watch it, as is the inimitable comedian Bill Bailey. If you like surrealistic musings on the nature of time, woodland creatures, trolls and alternate universes inhabited by 'Space-Belgian accordionists'. Cracks me up, hes frikkin great.
Talented musician too which he uses in his routines. Here is his 'Love ballad' song (In the Scott Walker-Slayer tradition lol). http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
