You forgot to mention one other bad thing about the in-game music: It can't be turned off whenever you want. It's either always on, or always off.

This post actually deserves comment at great length. Silent Hunter 4 is the only game of any type ive ever played that comes with its own soundtrack recording. There are some very dramatic and tence pieces on this cd, and i have sat down to play the game with the soundtrack wafting in the background....BUT ....something was missing...i thought about the very youth and young age of most of the crew of these boats, and thought further about the kind of music that thses guys might listen to when it was permitted in the enclosed world of the sub...it would then have to be something that most on the Boat would apprciate, too, being the enclosed space that it was. So, my thought turned to the popular music of the day as the most likely candidate for suitable background music. Picked up a CD of Glenn Millers wartime hits (In The Mood, American Patrol, Moonlight Seranade....you Americans would have all these tunes in your head already.....but i tell you, it really adds to the atmosphere of this fine simulation to put on a bit of Swing (Benny Goodman is another good listen). youd be suprised how well something like "Pennsylvania 6-500" goes when your blasting the hull away from your latest kill!.....TRY IT.....Let me know if you all stll feel the same way about the type of soundtrack on offer at the moment....its a very good listen in its own right, but a few moments thought about the whole thing, and SWING becomes the historically accurate choice. Buy for now!

Nimitz,
Are you aware that you can play MP3s on your gramaphone?
You can also add Fred8615's radio MODs and add his music to them and/or the gramaphone.

Go to the link in my post above and do a little exploring. You can get a lot of '40s music there.

I never cared for the game soundtrack myself. It made it seem too "Hollywood." One of the first things I did was find out how to shut it off.

Your house is safe, I've had Miller, Goodman, Artie Shaw and many others on my gramaphone since April, when I figured out how to do it.

On the icons: (Gamelins) Hit reply and lay your cursor on the smiley just above, you will then see this:

Click on one and it will appear where your cursor was in the body of your reply as "happy". When the post appears inthe forum, the gamelin will show there.

You are right about the committed part. I'm not just involved, I'm committed and should probably sent to an institution for it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

The best analogy for the difference between involved and committed is the ham sandwich. You are involved, but the pig is committed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif I was a little taken aback at first to tell absloute truth.....then i realized i was dealing with someone who loved the game as much as ive grown to, and with a whole lot more experiance too...that sobered me up....ive spent the last three days posting info ive had in the bag for long time...PLENTY more good stuuf to come....personal and continuing interest in the Pacific War as a whole, and the U.S Navys Submarine Campaign in particcular, principally because it IS so close to all the bis secrets of the Pac war itself, the lies and cover ups that are obvious to people like ourselves......The TRUTH will out, for poterity, for the kids that pick up the topic and wonder what it was REALLY about and for the participants themselves who didnt make it home to the better world they had no idea was coming....oh yes...look forward to more from me on this Nirvanic site!

If your're scared of modding you can always use your own music as well by placing the tracks in the radio or gramaphone folder, just make sure they are the right file format first. Loads of radio stations have been submitted so have a search and you should come across the links.
