I have been out of the loop with PC stuff for a little while. (i have a 6800 now)
I'm amazed at how low prices have went on PC parts. In everyones opinion, what is the best 8 series card for the price?

Luckily this is one of the easiest questions in the business right now, 8800GT 512mb hands down.

No kidding. Better performance at a lower price than an 8800GTS. Nearly as good as an 8800GTX for about half the cost. That's the bang-for-the-buck item right there.

Alrighty, thanks guys... I'll have to check it out.
Another question: if I got and 8600 would I see a big improvement from a 6800? I know a lower end of a new series is sometimes no better.

You'd probably see some improvement. How much would depend on what version of the 6800 you currently have.
Click here (http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=720&model2=854&chart=318) to see a comparison of most of the video cards of 2007 from Tom's Hardware. The link is the overall performance score, but you can look at specific benchmarks and highlight two different cards to easily find the difference.

Lets just say this, I went from a 7800GTX 256mb, to a 8800GTS 512mb, in the FEAR built in benchmark test, I went from averaging 65fps @ 1280x1024 with 2xAA, to averaging 90fps @ 1680x1050 with 4xaa and the GT isnt far behind....yes u will notice a difference.

ALrighty guys, thanks again.
I think I'm gonna get an 8600 with 512 ram.
Not the best, but a big improvement from what I have now.

Well ill admit im a nvidia guy, but then again ill also admit that the 8600 series is not that great, ATI's offering around that price range is much much better.

The price to performance ratio is just not near as good as ATI's in that price range.
This card smokes it. Even though its 256mb vs 512mb.

The 512mb ver is about 20 bucks more.

But if I were you, I would try my hardest to save a little more for the 8800GT, it is more than worth it.
