How do you figure? Of the 13 people youve polled over half will buy the game, 3 of the 8 have already pre-ordered. Doesnt look like theres any cause for concern on Ubisofts part. Bear in mind that every other similar poll thats been done has also reflected a majority consensus of excitement withing the community about Conviction.

13 people will certainly offset the development costs!
Actually, snark aside - this type of a poll (whatever the results) on this particular forum are not incredibly useful. The people, who are on this message board, are pre-disposed or at the very least the most likely to buy the game or pre-order it.
Of course, from my perspective, I would be somewhat worried if I am Ubisoft. The people, who post on this message board, are the hardcore fans of the series. They are the people who should - at least theoretically - be guaranteed pre-orders. Yet, few people responded to the poll (only 13) and of those people that responded, only 3 will pre-order? I don't see tons of excitement.
Look, admittedly, I am not too excited for this game for a variety of reasons that I have already made clear on numerous other topics. However, I would seriously doubt that a "majority" of the posters are excited about Conviction. The majority of posts and topics are negative or contain reservations (you know, "I wish they would go back to light/shadow gameplay, but that trailer did look really cool").
I may rent it just to see what it is like, but as of now, I am not excited enough to buy based on what I have seen to date.

Pre orders dont matter as much as buys. And as of right now its 12 to 7 in favor of the game. If its a good game it will do well, regardless of whether or not some of the die hards cant deal with change.

I have never pre-ordered or rented a game. But I do have a question, can a game be rented on the day of release or is there a wait time?

According to game reviewers, Double Agent was quite a good game, but it didn't even come close to the sells of former SC titles.

There could be numerous reasons for that. The most obvious being that even though it was good, it wasnt as good as CT. Conviction could get the highest rating of the series thus far. It could also get the lowest. However the potential is there and so is the interest. We wont know until we see more.

On a game's official forum, usually the people who post are fans of the series. You would therefore hope to get an overwhelming majority of the community to be saying they will at least buy the game, if not preorder it, from a developer's point of view. As of this post, less than two thirds of the community are even going to buy the game. That can't be good news for Ubisoft.

Good point Eskimo. Where is my choice for "I won't pre-order it, but I will wait and see what it is like from the forum's opinion"
^ That's what I am doing. But I chose the "they will be lucky if I rent it" choice.

I've been preordering the SC's since Pandora, so I'm sure I'll preorder Conviction as well.
