Whoops - sorry about that.

Look at the following images

Same images except one has a tiny piece of sky visible. Both taken at the same time in the simulation -A10 campaign mission3.

Any idea why the frame rate drops from 71 to 33 with the sky in view?.

On this mission my frame rates are all over the place at times down to single figures. Makes it very difficult to play. Most of the time missions run in to 30-50 range. What is going on?

Resection.

P IV 3ghz HT, 1gig RAM, Radeon 9800 pro. Most settings on medium except textures high.

have you tried the lowrez sky mod? It really helps fps and doesn't degrade visual quality all that much.

My guess would be that it's not the sky, but the fact that you are looking all the way to the horizon. Many more terrain polys and textures. What's your view distance set to?

This is what I thought initially but view distance set to medium only and I don't get this sort of drop in other missions.

I am using the overcast sky medium mod anyway. Get far better frame rates with A10 campaign mission 2 - when the sky is fully overcast.

I am still puzzled - will maybe try and set texture detail down to medium and see if that helps but I do like the extra plane details on close up with textures on high.

I thought I had got this set up to run smoothly after a week of fiddling around - looks like I have more work to do. Anyway still having a blast playing this great and potentially in the future far greater simulation.

Thanks for your answers.
