I saw there are 5.2 Catalist drivers. They are supposed to give farcry a big bosst on some cards.
Anyone have any comments on this?

I am using 5.2. I see no change at all with a 9800 pro->XT.

I have an x-800 pro on 5.2's , and although i haven't seen any frame rate increase ,the game seems considerably smoother and a lot more responsive......

Hi All,
I'm using the 5.2's on my X800XT PCI-E system, but did not find any noticeable difference compared to the 5.1's. However I found that by boosting the Gcard controls in the BIOS (Asus P5AD2 premium board) I can play FarCry on 1600x1200 res. with everything in video options on "High" without any choppiness. I don't know exactly how many FPS, because I consider that academic. If you don't notice any slow down from your own individual eyes, then why bother checking FPS?
Anyway, If your using any Gcard drivers, check to see if your BIOS has facilities for boosting performance.
What I can say too, is that I have to disable any background process that are not necessary such as ADSL Modem. Every little bit helps.

I have a x800pro card and installed the drivers. The framerate DROPPED from 55 to 45 in one test, and from 73 to 55 in another.
I tried installing the previous version of the drivers again, but after that Farcry did't even boot (installing old drivers over the new one apparantly broke directX)
amd/2700, 2 GB RAM, x800pro, agp
edit: after playing around in the catalyst settings, the framerate is up again to (almost) the same level as before. Very strange.

thanks for all your responses, people. FOr those who care to answer:
Did 1.3 improve the SP side of the game? I remember the main gripe I had with 1.2 is that the fixed guns were broken. (I only play SP in Farcry)
Thanks again!

I don't know about the previous 1.2 patch, have only played with the 1.3 patch, I only got the gama about a month ago. I only play SP games too, the A.I. is great to fool around with.

1.3 incorporates all the 1.2 patch "improvements" including stamina, run speed, etc. It also changed the weapon strenghts in MP. I remember the mounted gun glitches in 1.2 and I have played in 1.3 and it does not seem as bad. But...If you played through successfully in 1.1 and want to keep your savepoints, then do not upgrade unless you want to play online.

Grettings All,
Well, I'm still having f***** trouble keeping FarCry stable for fairly long periods of time. eg. 15 - 60 minutes or more. I don't know exactly what it is, could be the drivers from ATI or the way they are installed. I have a pretty good rig:
Asus P5AD2 MoBo (PCI-Xpress)
P4 3.6Ghz LGA775
2048Mb DDR2 dual channel RAM
ATI X800XT GeCube with Arctic 4 Silenced Cooler
Maxtor 160Gb SATA RAID-0 HD.
Antec 550W True PSU
Creative SB2 NX
Logitech MX1000 Laser mouse (now in the USB port)
MS Media Pro KeyBoard
Thermaltake "Shark" Case
" " Aquarius III Water Cooler for CPU
Philip Brilliance 202p4 (22 inch) monitor
Creative Cambridge Soundworks THX 5.1 Spks.
After adjusting the BIOS settings to give more bandwidth to the Gcard, it was stable for that night only, then the next day the game crashes to the Windows desktop or sometimes the BSD!!!!
and it has even just locked up and frozen or just locks in on your last mouse movement moving in that direction without any keyboard or other mouse movements! weird!
I have uninstalled the drivers using the Windows Add remove program window and reinstalled older ATI Catalyst drivers such as 5.1's, 4.12's and 4.11's but still the same problem.
I read on the ATI website that sometimes people with Asus P5AD2 MoBo can have similar issues with a game called "Call of Duty" and to adjust the "Peg Link Mode" in the BIOS settings for the Gcard to "Slow" and not on the default "Auto"
I thought trying this might help FarCry and it did for a while but then the dreaded crashes and lockups continue.
For the record, My Pagefile is set to default settings and I play this game FarCry at either 1600x1200 with NO AA or Anistropic filtering and everything else on "Autodetect" in the FarCry Video options window or on 1280x1024 with the same, but it does'nt make any difference.
Please, someone in the know, suggest anything to try here, I hate rebooting the system often.
Oh, I nearly forgot, I don't have any background processess running that are not deemed neccessary for Windows XP pro SP2 to run and be stable. Also, I use Norton System Works Premier 2005 Ed. to keep it all smooth http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

When I first started playing Far Cry, I was getting the screech, freeze, crash scenario. Once I bumped up the Vcore (CPU) and Vdimm (ram) a notch in the mb bios, I haven't had a single freeze. It could be another issue on your system, but all my problems dissappeared after I increased those settings. It has worked in the past on games like Splinter Cell too.....

Thanks mucker for your post,
I have got practically everything in the MB BIOS video section on max and just then I was playing FarCry on only 1152x864 res. with no AA or AF and it STILL crashes after about 10-15 mins playing, I have v1.31 patch too. This is p***** me off so bad!!! I don't feel like playing this game anymore.
You would think that having a system with this specs - it WOULD handle playing this game even at only 1280x1024 with no AA or AF, it does it with other games like HalfLife 2 or Doom3, why not with this game? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
Edit: By default the ATI X800XT has 500Mhz Chipset frequency and Dual 400Mhz RAMDAC, one of the highest on the market. I think the problem is with the game and maybe the patches.

I didnt see a considerable boost with my x800pro.
But on the topic of patches, does anyone think its possible that ubi would release a patch that would make HDR compatible with ATI cards, similar to how it was used in The Project demo?

Well, its seems that the good people at Asus have put out another BIOS update for the P5AD2 premium MoBo. That's the 6th one since it came out on to the market back in the middle of last year - 2004. It's quite amazing that they have so many updates in a relatively short time. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
