Hi there fellow silent hunter fans !
i'm new here and i tought i'd make a post and get aquainted with a few individuals, and perhaps meet a few skippers who are known as deadly and efficient ^^.
Now as i said, i'm fairly new to the game, but i managed to pick up the basics rather quickly and pretty soon after trial and error, (and a little luck) i managed to sink my first real convoy of 3 destroyers and 5 or 6 freighters give or take.
after that i surfaced, looked around and slowly sailed further down the horizon

So i think that concludes my first post here ^^
feel free to add new suggestions & strategies as i'm pretty much armed with only the basics, and clear and logic thinking.

See you at the harbor café ?

Hi there Cdr. Happy, quite a cheerfull name ^^
but yea.. i got kicked out of the insane rehab for the mentaly insane drug addicts, found out there's an assylum filled with Silent hunter fans. Felt right at home ^^
I'd also like to know what subs you guy's are using, the name of it, and all the details about it.
my sub, the U.S.S. Black Shadow is currently in freemantle in the drydock, being refitted and repaired after a dept charge did catastrophical damage to the propulsion system and the battery's

Also;
I'm about to get the Uboat Missions expansion, and get that XVIII boat that rusty explained in his report, DAMN that uboot looks NICE. it looks so... modern.. Can anyone give me more info on that particular sub, as i don't think the XVIII is just a regular sub with a new coat ?

From your description of yourself, it sounds like you'll fit in nicely here. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As for the subs we play in that would be S-class up to the Balao-class and everthing in between. Everybody around here has their favorite. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Can't help you much with the U-Boats as I play in the Pacific. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Welcome aboard...

Get U-boats when you can, that's 1.5 and works with the latest mods.

When you're ready for some realism, better graphics, go for one of the supermods like TMO.

could it be that we share the same subs there Happy ? As your forum name's the name of the sub that's currently striking fear into the imperial navy of japan ^^

and i might just take you up on that Mwolfe
but to be honest..
i haven't been this excitted now that i managed to catch a glympse of the Walther project XVIII sub, that sub's antique and unique at the same time, only 2 ever made, and i noticed that Rusty has the U-796, which is one of em ^^.
i'd really appreciate it if someone could put some more info of that sub here, like the max opperational depth, any unique quallities and all ^^
only been here an hour and i feel right at home

Hello Kenshi911,

Welcome

If you have the basic Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific right now make sure you are patched to version 1.4. Once you get the U-boat missions you will be at version 1.5.

Happy hunting

Who the heck is Cdr. Happy? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Now, I'm not sure if this qualifies as either deadly or efficient, but I was once cited for assault with a friendly weapon,http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif if that's what you mean.

I seldom play Uboats and never played long enough to get a Walther boat, but when I played Uboats I used mods. The stock game is rather sucky, unrealistic and bugged, mods correct most that. There is a great supermod for Uboats called "Operation Monsoon" for Uboats for 1.5. You may want to give it a try when you get 1.5. Mods change stock behavior so depending on what and how you play, mods can vary on the parameters set for each sub.

I know Paul here plays Uboats and would know about the Walther, but hasn't been around in a month or so, but I'll PM him and see what's up with him.

Here is a good link that has most of the mods for SH4 Uboats, including OM. If you're not a member of subsim join up and I'm sure many that play uboats can answer all your questions.

The Walther is a sweet boat. auto loaders on the tubes so you can have some of your tubes reloaded before the first hits occur.

I get 18 kts on the surface and 23 underwater. I mentioned how deep it will dive, but i was told I didn't know what I was talking about, so you will have to discover that on your own.

I have raided ports, and out run the patrolling DD's, submerged, heading for deep water 10 miles away, with 10 feet of water under the keel. It was a wild ride.

The only thing I don't like about it is there is not a deck gun to finish off disabled ships. The 40cm AA guns just aren't powerful enough to do the job.

and do you have to do something special to get the Walther ?
Or is it just playable from the start ?

Nothing special. It is offered to you after a few patrols. I have tried to turn it down but they will keep bugging you to switch.

managed to complete 2 patrols, and a total tonnage of about 60-70.000 tonnes give or take

Welcome aboard. It sounds like you're off to a great start. After you get the expansion and used to stock, go with the supermods. They make an incredible addition to an already great game. Don't be afraid to ask questions. We're all happy to show off what we know about the game.
