View Full Version : landscape/load/ini error
02-07-2009, 01:02 PM
I ran my registry cleaner and I am now getting load.ini errors on all maps. I know some had issues with this in the past and it was put down to patching errors but I was able to run the game fine prior to the registry sweep and haven't installed anything new patch or otherwise.
I've cleared net cache as well. Any ideas short of reinstall?
02-07-2009, 03:58 PM
Well, things are much, much worse.
I tried using a restore point but that didn't fix the problem so I bit the bullet and reinstalled.
I still get the same error message.
I uninstalled again, erased everything related to IL-2, ran CCleaner to clear up the registry, rebooted and reinstalled. Problem still persists.
When I first try to play a mission, I get the landscape/load.ini error which dumps me back to the main game menu. If I try to create the same mission a second time, the game will either get 23% of loading and dump to desktop with no error message or it will give me an error message for a random file such as GLASS.mat.
Anyone have any ideas? This is the second time Vista Manager from Yamicsoft has screwed up my machine after a registry cleaning. I can't understand how the damned thing gets such glowing reviews.

I reinstalled Direct X10.1 and I'm able to play in DirectX now, but if I try to run in OpenGL, I get the same error messages.

You should be carefull using registry cleaners.
It's not necessary to clean the registry after an uninstall. I have the impression you are flying off in ten directions at once without first thinking about what you are doing. Take a deep breath and WAIT.
First of all did you follow this guide (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/1921070116) to install under Vista?
What version of Vista and what version of the game do you have?
Does running a quick mission on the Crimea map produce an error too?
02-07-2009, 04:51 PM
I'm thinking about what I'm doing.
1) run registry cleaner with stupid Yamicsoft Vista Manager (OK, maybe I wasn't thinking with this step. Program's been nothing but trouble since I bought it.)
2) Things in IL-2 stopped working. Reboot. Error persists. Search forums.
3) Forums all point to either patch sequence errors or net cache. Can't be #1, so try number #2 and clear cache. Error persists.
4) Restore registry. Reboot. Error persists. Curse Yamicsoft loudly.
5) Post problem here.
6) Try fiddling with various graphics settings. Error persists. Try switch to DX, error persists. Try lowering settings in .ini file. Error persists. Reset .ini file.
7) Rollback Cat drivers from 9.1 to 8.12. Error persists.
8) Backup missions, paints, and whatnot and reinstall game. Try vanilla 4.07 version. Error persists.
9) Check for DX 10.1 updates. None found. Try reinstalling DX 10.1 anyway. Can now play in DX mode but still not in OpenGL.
10) Uninstall game, delete game folder, use CCleaner. Reboot, reinstall game. Try 4.07. DX works, OpenGL doesn't. Install 4.08 patch. Same result. Install 4.09b1. Same result.
11) Reinstall Cat 9.1. Error persists.

Damn it, this is annoying!
I cannot think of anything else to do regarding Open GL. Does anyone using Vista 64 with a Radeon 4870 card (Cat 9.1) have any tips/settings?

I'm not sure what could have been cleaned out of the registry that would effect il2 this way. The only thing I can think of is maybe Java. Try reinstalling the latest Java and see if that helps.

Are you familiar with a repair install of windows? There is a way to do a reinstall of windows right on top of what you have and it won't affect installed programs, no reformat or anything like that. Google "repair install" and read up on it. Obviously that registry cleaner has done something major to your OS or a reinstall of il2 would have fixed it.
02-08-2009, 08:30 PM
What I don't understand is the load ini error. You normally get that when a map can't be found in the SFS files. A re-install of IL-2 should have repaired the SFS files however. If errors occur with OpenGL I would expect the error to be graphics driver related.
The best uninstaller I know is Your Uninstaller! 2008 (http://www.ursoftware.com/) It has not ever failed me yet. I use XP and not Vista however.
02-08-2009, 09:00 PM
I assumed it was driver related as well so I went through Cat 8.11, 8.12, and 9.1 but the error keeps coming up. I used three different uninstallers (one of which screwed things up enough that I had to boot in safe mode and sweep for ATI files that way).
I really just don't get what's going on here and it's driving me nuts.
Urufu. Can't do the repair install. I have the full version of Vista 64 and the disc just won't let me.
02-08-2009, 11:42 PM
What do you mean it won't let you? Do you get an error message? If so, what does it say?
I suspect this will end in a reformat and re-install.
Your "method" of applying multiple different programs after each other will only get you deeper into problems. First you applied Vista Manager followed by CCleaner, now you apply Cat 8.11, 8.12 and 9.1
This sort of thing is a recipy for certain disaster, anf you are succeeding in that it seems. Stop doing that sort of thing appply 1 and only 1 thing at a time. No fix? stop.
What are 8.12 and 9.1 supposed to do that 8.11 did not?
02-09-2009, 05:02 PM
I had the same problem after monkeying around with the settings in the new CAT 9.1.
Try resetting to Factory Defaults under the Preferences tab in your ccc.
02-09-2009, 05:20 PM
Thanks. Factory defaults didn't work.
MaxMhz, when I insert the Vista CD, the "install now" option is greyed out.
02-09-2009, 08:22 PM
- Did you upgrade Vista with SP1 yourself or was it on your DVD? If it installed first time to Vista SP1, you need to remove SP1 first before attempting a repair/upgrade install.
- Do you have a "Retail Full" or "Upgrade" DVD version of Vista?
Before even thinking about a repair install back up all data you do not want to loose.
02-09-2009, 09:33 PM
Dunno. Just bought the thing a few months ago with the OS pre-installed. Anyway, as everything else is working after the system restore, I'm just going live with it working in DX only for now. Wasted too much time and stress on it as it is. Messing around with repair installs sounds like a recipe for disaster. Maybe when the workload dies down and I have some free time, I'll do a reformat of the works.
Thanks for the help everyone.

You might want to consider a dual or even multi-boot setup. That way you will (almost) always have a working system. I would stop using that Vista Manager. I think there is where it went sour. If you install drivers or apply registry cleaning, it is a good precaution to make a system restore point yourself. If things go wrong then immediately restore the system. Never go on by adding other versions of the driver or even mix cleaners. Things will get messed up beyond repair that way. You can substitute one driver for another, by first uninstalling driver one and then installing driver two. You can not add driver two to driver one.
A repair install (like any install) does have it's dangers. Just like registry cleaning. These sort of procedures can be compared to open heart surgery. A lot can go wrong.
02-11-2009, 12:36 PM
After reading this thread i can say the problem lies within Cat 9.1 drivers!
Roll back to 8.12 or earlier and things will do fine again.
I read on the forbidden forum 3 or 4 people had the same problem after installing Cat 9.1
Strange but true!
Let me know if it helped!!
02-11-2009, 03:17 PM
I doubt the system will let him roll back the driver after all that was done. I would be highly surprised if Vista still knew what went on http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
02-28-2009, 07:03 PM
Well i have spent 5 hours trying to fix the "openGL" issue http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I just got done doing a fresh install of XPhome SP3 On a new HD and then a fresh install of IL2, 4.07 that's when i found the problem, upon starting il2 i would get nothing but an hour glass for 2 seconds and then nothing, i did find this file in the root directory, however it will run under directx

thnx for any help

FWIW I am not sure what caused the issue but i have a few thoughts
#1 during my first install my new SATA HD showed under windows as drive E not C, I thought this was because i had it plugged into the wrong SATA connection (there are 4 ), but on this reinstall it showed up as C drive, i did make sure all connections inside the PC were tight before reinstall.
#2 instead of a "quick format" i chose a full format this time
#3 during the MB driver install i may have screwed up the chipset drivers , instead of the "express" installation from the MB driver CD i chose to do it myself..resulting in the sound not working until i realized that i had to install the "The Microsoft UAA (Universal Audio Architecture) Bus driver " before windows would even realize i had a sound card.
I am not sure which of the three may have caused the problem..if it was any them at all...but now IL2 is working fine.

If its any help after updating to Catalyst 9.2 I've just had to roll back my Catalyst drivers to 8.11 as using the unified installer 1.1 from AAA caused 'landscape load.ini' errors on all maps.
Changing back to the 8. series Catalyst solved all the problems.
I'm on Vista Ultimate X64 with 2 x HD3870's in crossfire.
Hope this helps.

i have just spent 6 *#!Ģing hours messing about with this same problem.....i literally want to throw this system out of the window
on my system the CATALYST AI was the cause set it to STANDARD and not ADVANCED
03-11-2009, 04:43 PM
Hi, sorry for my poor english, I had the same problem on my Win XP SP3, Ati Radeon HD 4870, after modifing the 3D options of the Catalyst Control Center. Then, after reading this post I try to set "Catalyst A.I" to Standard and the problem solves. IL-2 runs again on OPengl normally. Thanks!!!
03-23-2009, 01:45 AM
I read this thread all the way through and you guys solved my problem -- same load situation, changed Catalyst AI setting from Advanced back to Standard, everything now works perfectly. I'm running the 9.2 drivers, 4870, Vista 64 on a new Phenom II 940 X4 sytem -- never seen this sim looking so good, runs smooth as glass. Thanks for saving me hours of hunting around for the fix!
05-25-2009, 03:09 AM
I'm using Vista 64 ATI 9.5 and I get the load.ini error on all maps if I don't disable Catalyst AI
If I do disable Catalyst AI then the game loads fine.
Reinstalling the game and registry cleaners won't in this scenario make any difference.
05-25-2009, 03:22 PM
Same here, looks line Catalyst AI is hosed for IL-2.
Just leave it on "Disabled", you wonīt tell the difference.
