Well I get the drift, the U-Boat war was in great decline after 1943 and their actions wre less and less of an effect in the atlantic but in time honored tradition of all the SH series then I want to play up until 1945.

The Kreigsmarine also wanted to play until 1945 so why cant we ??

Bad decision by the Devs on that one, its like only being able to watch the first half of a football match.

yeah, it really really sucks. I guess it was UBIs decision because they did not want to delay the release of the game. Whatever might be the reason, I hate the result. Might be one reason not to buy the game. If there is this new DRM-system in the game too I definatly wont ever buy it.

I have to wonder if one of the considerations was the time and expense involved in modeling late war developments like GNATs and effective radar detection. (…And the other technology that made survival even possible in ’44 and ’45!)

Well it was the true tide of war was it not Socko ! but one that the KM did not give up with, even devising new boat types right up till the last day.

From 1943 onwards was the most crucial part of the war for the KM with new technology to counteract the allies new technolgy and all this is NOT being inclcuded in SH5-RIP.

Im calling it RIP now Rust In Pieces hahahahaha

I have read the interview myself, and I must say that I think it is a misunderstanding that Ubi have changed the history of ww2 ending in 1943. The only thing that was said in the interview was that "our [Ubi's] campaign" ended in 1943.

Yes, I also understood that the players uboat career ends in 1943... not the war itself.

I think it's a bad decision because I want to be able to patrol during the entire war and get to try out the more advanced technologies as the difficulty increases. It's part of what made SH3 so great (and in my opinion, what was lacking in Sh4 where there is very little difference between a 1945 Balao and a 1941 Tambor).

What's funny is to think back at the release of SH4. I still remember the bug where you were transferred to Fremantle in '43 (i think) and your career was suddenly finished.

I remember coming to this forum and looking for a fix/workaround, and I actually got the response that many people found it "unrealistic" to expect to patrol during the entire war... Where are those people now? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif They should be happy because a career that starts in '39 and ends in '43 is very long compared to most real sub skippers during the war.

I, however want to patrol from sept '39 to may '45... because I want tonnage http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Another point:
The whole idea with "type VII"-only could be a good one. When I think about the uboat war, the image that comes to mind is that of a type VII on a dangerous patrol from a french base (as in Das Boot). In SH3 I mostly played with the VII anyway. Sometimes I tried the IX, but never the type II and very rarely I changed to the XXI at the end of the war (it almost felt like cheating since it wasn't really used at all). Besides, when comparing it to flight simulators, there is a difference between what I think is called "study sims" and "survey sims". Study sims have few or one aircraft that is extremely accurately simulated down to every knob and oil pump. A survey sim has lots of aircraft that are moderately simulated... I prefer detail to quantity any day, so if this is the reason for only one uboat type, then I'll be happy.

Come on guys,

I know it sucks for the moment and I also wouldn´t buy this game under this circumstances either. But as we all know, today games start getting interesting when the first mods come out and the first patches have been made. I never expect too much from a just released game and this time I probably don´t buy it at the beginning untill useful mods are made and of course ubisoft released an add-ons with more u-boats/technology etc.. I wouldn´t have played SH3 for a long time if there just would have been the original ubisoft release without further mods. So let´s hope for our modding experts, with all their knowledge and passion for this game and that they bring us more and realstic campaigns up to 1945 and perhaps even further years if we manage to starve out England with our boat in this dynamic campaigns ;-)

Well I can see this being done for a reason. They will do to SH5 what they did to SH4, that being they will release a game add-on that will take u to the wars end. SH4 U-boat add on will be simular to what they prob have up their sleave for SH5 but it will cover the rest of the war with new techs and boats etc..

Exactly. They will do like Rise Of Flight and Wings Of Prey. They will release more u-boats and/or war years and they will sell these add-ons online.
