S!
Wedge Tailed Eagles, 2nd Talon Wing is, on first look, quite different as we are part of the Australasian Net Gaming set-up with the site being home to five different games (makes for variety at home!).
However, once onto the FB section of the site we are well organised with the four Sqn rosters, new Aerobatic Team just being included, Combat Flight Academy now shaping up.
The site has a great many resources in terms of skins, missions and technical data.
It is not as flashy as some, but has been well done and is efficient.
Take a look on http:\\wte-anga.com

Don't forget to mention the DataBase driven systems, the viewable medal chest, stats sytem and other goodies. Maybe not the prettiest page (not graphicly intensive) but sure is functional! DB Events Calander, DB Ranks and awards system, hooah! it just goes on...

Easy!
I think a squad website should have lots of critieria other than bells and whistles.
Is is a site dedicated to your squad?
Is it a domain of its own that again shows dedication?
Is it original in content, not just stuff taken from others websites?
Does it give you a feeeling of power and awe?
Does it give you information on joining and the reasons why without begging?
Does it give you a sense of history?
Well www.jg1.org (http://www.jg1.org) ( www.jagdgeschwader1.org (http://www.jagdgeschwader1.org) ) meets all the above and then some. We ave some hyperlinks not yet up but the site is full of history and information. Our forums are visited everyday but many fliers in the community (true we host Paul Lowengrins DCG!) and has a great deal of information and original content.
Many of our fliegers reported that the reason they joined II Gruppen JG1 (not those other knock offs) is because of our website as well as the flying training they recieve.
We also host JG1 "Richthofen" which is still hanging in there with Red Baron.
JG1 is the oldest cyber squadron ever created for ANY flight sim flying the iron cross and no one can say that.
We were one of the original in IL2 as well but we stepped down from JG1 "Oesau" since another unit in EAW was using it and we decided and agreed to Gruppen II. That shows not just dedication but compasion to other units.
Our handle, our site, and MY NAME are also the most copied so that must mean that other units find us worthy. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I'll let you all decide..................

We are an old Luftwaffe Group, that has been around since the day the Original IL-2 was released.

Some very talented people emerged from our Original JG77 Online Group from the early days in IL-2.
They went on to form their own Online Groups.
I/JG77Heinz Bar went on to reform Jagdverband 44 in IL-2/FB.
I think his Web Site is a worthy contender, the opening movie is good!

Hello fellow pilots
Iâ'm proud to present you: http://www.vnvv.com/ . The web-site of =VNVV= "Vuzdishnite na Negovo Velichestvo Voiski" (most accurate translation is: "Royal Bulgarian Air Force").
Our squad is small, but very united. Our goal is to save and resume the spirit of the Bulgarian pilots – heroes of the war. Outnumbered, they fought bravely during WWII, protecting their own country, never feared.
Iâ'm proud to be Bulgarian and a CO of =VNVV=.

Rg..
My criteria for an awesome website are as follows:
1) Simple and clean - too much clutter, too many crazy animations, too many fonts or font colors, too many tables, or pics that seem to be dropped out of nowhere, dont impress me as much.
2) Era specific Feel - Although, I dont think this is a necessity, there is a little logic when the colors and styles fit the era. Still there are a number of websites that have a very modern look and are very cool.
3) Controlled Creativity - It's awesome to see cool artwork, and interesting buttons, but it is also very easy to get carried away. Trus me, I know cause, I've re-done our website about 15 times.. In fact, I just changed our website, and the XO said to me, "Whew, I'm glad we finally got rid of that last look..."
Lol.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
4) Professional Look - this is hard to get to I think. If it's too conservative, it can be just another bland website. But easily, a site can become cluttered and difficult to look through.
6) Good Content - This is subjective as well. I think the best sites have a little of everything. In my mind a site should have at least the following:

About Us Page

Roster Page

Membership Page (if they take new members)

Means of Contact - This is a huge one. A lot of sites seem to have no way to get in touch with the squad. What if someone is curious about joing, and needs to ask questions before filling out an application. Perhaps another squad would like to invite you to an event.
But also, I think it is nice when there are downloads, and pieces of education.. For example:

The Immelmann - how it's performed and an diagram of some type.

Split-S

How to get on hyperlobby.

Setting up your comm's

Defining cockpit guages..

Links to other cool sites

Forums

etc.
You don't have to leak sensitive information or secrets, but still it's attractive and meaningful to your site. imo... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
5) Pop-Up's - man these are annoying. I undersand though, that some squads can't afford or don't see the reason to pay for web-hosting..But, if you can somehow squeeze a mere $10 a month out, I am pretty sure you can find a basic web hosting provider and have a much more appealing website.
That's just my perspective on visiting new sites.. I spend more time at the really good ones savoring them and sying to myself, "This site's awesome. I'm jealous!" And that's satisfaction.
